    Default Going For My License

I am 32 years old and have no license. I lived in the city my whole life and never needed it. There was always a bus or someone to drive me but now we've made some sacrifices so my kids can grow up in a crime free neighborhood (Agassiz, BC) and it's out in the boonies and it's become very obvious I need my license. My husband makes comments like if a 16 year old can drive then so can you. It's putting more pressure on me than before!! I've set the date for the road test, have my learners but my road test is in August and I'm already panicking!! I dread driving. The thought that I may have the flu on the day of my road test, that I'll get into an accident or dissapoint everyone!! I've taken lots of lessons and it's not the actual driving I need help with I know the test is going to be a HUGE problem for me. Has anyone taken the road test to get their license and if so what did you do to calm yourself down??

I find that driving actually calms me down. I take the long way home from work to unwind. There are so many things to pay attention to on the road, I find it distracts me from the anxious thoughts constantly running through my head. Having the windows down when it's nice out is good, too.. nothing better than breathing in some fresh air and some good music to make the mood! But everyone is different.

Don't let anyone put more stress on you. Just relax is the most important thing you can do! I'm sure you will do great!! As my best friend says.. "keep it between the mayonnaise and the mustard!" and you'll be fine! Best of luck to you!

I failed my test the first time because of nerves. And do you know what happened? Not a lot! I just tried again later. Failing is not the end of the world!

Honestly, the driving test is nothing to be worried about, there is no highway driving and at least in Colorado, you don't even have to parallel park. All I know is that I wasn't nervous because I had been driving around our neighborhood and it was no problem to me so just keep reminding yourself that as long as you can stop at a stop sign and don't speed, you'll be fine. Just remember to check your rear-view every time you stop, that is the ONLY point I got docked on the whole test. Happy Driving
