    Default OT: Degrees online

I am looking in to getting a bachelor's in early childhood education, but due to work and life in general, am unable to travel and actually attend classes. Anyone know of any reputable online programs or colleges in the US that might offer a degree that can be completed completely online. I have checked with numerous colleges in my area, upstate NY, but none offer a full online completion, only classes here and there.

Southern New Hampshire University isn't non-profit school that is based from a true brick and mortar university. I don't know if they offer that program.

Thank you for that!! I just checked into it, looks like they only offer the education degrees for a masters I have some time before I need to get in still working on my associates, so I'll have to keep my eyes open.

Have you ever heard anything about DeVry or was it Phoenix or something?

Maybe you could try Baker College online. My brother is getting an online degree through them. They might have a degree program you are looking for.

    You're welcome

Both Devry and Phoenix are for-profit schools so they're extremely expensive. My sister got her Bachelors degree in accounting from Pheonix, though, and she makes great money. She told me that Phoenix gives you your books but they're not physical books, they're ebooks you read online but they charge you just as much. I'd imagine that is really difficult in the eyes after a while and you wouldn't be able to buy used or rent the books so it will just make your expenses even more. Just an example: the textbook I using right now normally costs over $100 but I bought it used off amazon for $12.

I'd really be cautious with those degrees from there. That said, there are many universities out there that do offer it. I'd stick with an accredited school where the degree would be recognized by employers. Also, when going out of state, make sure you are fulfilling the requirements to teach in your state as well since each state's laws for teaching vary a little.

Kimberly, I would have to use amazon to get books because I am one of those people that has to have the book right there highlighter and notes, especially with online classes. The cost part is definitely something I would have to look into and financial aid if they have it. Amazon is a blessing when it comes to textbooks. I get a certain amount of aid that will go towards books but it is NEVER close to enough to cover completely and always look there as a first choice. I was given a total for books from my school on semester that was 875 for books, went to amazon and ended up spending about 275. BIG DIFFERENCE.

Dairyfreelife, I was thinking that too because I have seen the commercials all the time, but I went to another school around where I live and got screwed royally by them. They were another one that was on commercials all the time. So I am very cautious when it comes to those. I didn't even think about different requirements by state, so thank you very much for telling me about that!! I am looking more early childhood birth-6th grade. I want to try for a NY state school but all far for the most part and don't offer online courses for all classes. I am wondering if they would allow me to take online what I could and take a course at a school closer to home if offered, thats another thing I'll have to look into.

Look at WSU ( Washington state university) I'm half way through getting my bachlores online. I'm pretty sure they have early childhood education, if not I know they have a whole human development program online. Ill go check for you.

Ok so to get your teaching certificate in early childhood education WSU says you need your bachlores in HD (which they have totally online) however the certificate (not the bachlores degree) is only avalible to WA residents, probably due to different teaching requirements in different states. I'd check with your state and see what the certificate requiremts are there. If you need the bachlores degree then you could do it there and then just get the certificate in your state. I hope that makes sense

Thank you sooo much for the suggestion and looking in to it too that was very nice!! It does make sense absolutely! I am actually doing a certificate for a teacher assistant as well as associates in early childhood classes now, so that would definitely be a possibility. I don't NEED a bachelor's per se, but I want to have the option to teach at the very least up to 2nd grade, but preferably 6th. Although I have been working with 18mo-2 1/2 year olds this past year and LOVED it. The school I work at is expanding and adding in elementary grades but they require a bachelors to be a lead teacher for any program I believe, and masters for UPK-2nd as of now. Just want to keep my options open so no major rush I just like to have a plan
