As some of you know, I have an 18 month old son, and he is seriously going to be the death of me. I swear, I have had him in the emergency room and had to call 911 on him, and poison control-he is just a monkey and into everything. He has a throat infection, so the dr. put him on amoxicillin. Well, yesterday after lunch I was giving him his medicine, I put the lid on and put it back in the fridge. I was on the phone with my best friend who is a pharmacist, because I had a question about the strength of medicine the dr, had prescribed. While I was talking to her, my son comes down the stairs with the medicine bottle--he had opened the fridge, gotten the child proof cap off and DRANK the medicine out of the bottle!!!! He probably had like 10 doses worth. I FREAKED OUT. I called poison control (again) and they said that the dose/concentration were not toxic for a baby of his weight, but that he would probably get an upset stomach and d*. So of course I picture him v'ing orange medicine all over my house and didn't know what to do, so I gave him a bottle (yes, I am a bad mommy, my 18 mo. old still gets a bottle at nap/bed time) and put him down for his nap and then went and hid so that I wouldn't have to hear anything if it did happen. It turns out that my son is totally indestructible. He didn't get a stomachache, or v* or have d*. THe lady from poison control called me back and couldn't believe that it hadn't affected him at all!!! I thank GOd that I dodged that bullet!!!!!

I drank a whole bottle of amoxicillin when I was young...mine was the pink bubblegum kind. It never made me sick, thankfully. I'm glad your son is ok, I know how that stuff can worry ya!

Yeah... as much as I have always DETESTED medicine that tasted bad when I was a kid... THIS right here is the problem with companies making medications that taste ever so yummy so the kiddies will drink it down... I LOVED that stuff when I was a kid and I can just picture it now that all your son (donna)wanted was a drink of something he thought tasted quite delicious.

Oddlyenoughin my adult life theonly kind of medicine I will take is medicine that actually tastes like medicine (ie: the blue tylenol or robitussin) I can not tolerate anything they claim to be "grape" or "cherry" flavored, justBLECH!

Giving up doesn\'t always mean that we are weak. Sometimes it just means that we are strong enough to let go.

Good thing he's okay! And it doesn't make you a bad mom, by the way. We just had to call poison control for Ella last night. A 2 yr. old + air freshener = not good!!

Sometime I wonder if making the 'cillin's taste yummy isn't such a good thing?? It's kind of a 'catch-22' situation, because they make it taste good so the kids don't V* it up, which defeats it's purpose, but then it tastes so good that little people get ahold of it and drink it. **sigh**

I am glad though, that all the little ones who drank their med's are OK!!!!!

Wow! I'm glad Aidan's okay. There's just something about little boys...my nephew is ornery as heck too. I can only imagine what my poor SIL goes through.

I vaguely remember being ill as a kid and having some pink-colored pasty medicine that tasted good. I think I got into some, but ended up okay. Maybe it was penecillin or something? Anyway, I'm glad he's okay!

Glad he's ok. That had to be scary, but kids are pretty resilient for the most part.

it's not just little boys. lol. i never got into medicine, mostly cuz everything that was ever around tasted bitter and awful. but I did get into EVERYTHING else. and you really can't keep kids away from stuff. I used to pull my laces out of my shoes and tie things up when I was 5, and my mom got frustrated always having to relace them, put them on the top shelf of my closet. I climbed up to this oak shelf in my closest, took down my shoes, tied the laces all together, made a rope, tied it to the clothes pole in my closet and my mom came in to find me rappelling down the closet door, liked I'd seen McGyver doing on TV. Man, you shoulda seen the look on her face.
