My office is having a Christmas party tomorrow on a yachtish/small cruise ship tomorrow on the Potomac and I'm scared I'll be motion sick!

It's so nice of my boss, but is it horrible if I want to call in sick to avoid it? Ugh. I really really don't want to go.

I'm sorry but before I encourage you I have to say something...My favorite show is The Office and this totally reminds me of the booze cruise episode last season...HYSTERICAL!!!

Dramamine??? Others will be able to offer some good meds for you but I would say dramamine...I had a Fraternity Formal in College and it was on a damn boat and I was paranoid like Black Sabbath...I didn't take a thing and I was having so much fun, I didn't even think about sickness.

Do you get motion sickness easily?

Yeah I LOVE the office. Did you see last weeks? It was so good! Anyways...

I mostly get motion/panic attacks. Like i'll get panicky, then that evolves into motion sick. Or there's just a horrible cycle that feeds off it. It's one thing to be scared in front of your family though, but another to be freaked the f**k out in front of your boss and coworkers.

Maybe I can take the day off and blame it on my absent period?

Bah. I just need to pull my s*** together.

I can't speak for you but I know if it was me and I didn't go, I'd feel really left out for a couple of weeks after when everyone was talking about the cruise and I had nothing to contribute. So I think if you're up to it you should give it a go.

(P.S is this the American version of the office? I've only ever seen the english one, which do you guys thinkis better? I don't really know Steve Carell that much)

Ummm, When Michael marked her arm with a Sharpie, I cried from laughter...

Well you could take the day off but do you really want to go? If you really want to go then this would be a perfect opportunity to conquer! I know it's a vicous cycle with the panic attack-n*-panic attack...Worst comes to worst, can you leave? I mean is the boat going to be docked or floating down the river? I really believe that you can do this anda little dramamine will help...Do you drink? A glass of wine can certainly ease your nerves a bit...

I first watched the British version...Then I knew that they were making an American version with Steve Carell...I think the American version is way funnier because of Steve Carell...he is brilliant!

    Two words: Asian Hooters.

The Sharpie thing was fantastic. As was Michael listening to the 30 second sample of that horrid James Blunt song. Did you know Harold Ramis (aka Egon Spangler) directed it? *swoon.

My office is small - 4 people including me. I'll go, but I'm still going to whine about it for a day . Well, maybe an hour. I'm done whining now I guess. I'll take a dramamine, panic pill and eat only bread probably. Thanks for all your support! If anyone has any other advice, I'd take it too - or more Office talk!!

ps. What happened to Karen at the end of the episode? She totally disappeared after the gift exchange with Jim.

Trivia for you: Did you know that Karen and Jim dated in real life...Now they are great friends...It's time for her to go though...But what's up with Roy being hot now?

James Blunt makes me want to jab my eyeballs out...seriously.

You are going to be just fine...promise...Just don't eat a huge steak and potatoes...Take some meds and enjoy the booze cruise...Maybe ya'll could do the limbo? And what's up with my font changing?

Hahha. Yup, I read tvsquad and bestweekever religiously so I know all the sordid gossip. Or lack thereof. See, I was pulling for Karen b/c she has more backbone than Pam. But now that Jim mentioned the rebound thing...who knows. I was wary at first of the merging of the offices, but I like it now.

    "double fudge....angela.....double fudge...."

Looking on the bright side for the booze cruise, at least I'm working minimally this week - we have lunch today, 3 hours out tomorrow, and i'm leaving early friday to pack to go home.

    Hooray!

I LOVED the British version! I watched it all on DVD. I have never seen the American version, but now it seems as if I need to, huh?

    WATCH THE AMERICAN VERSION!

Michaels bike for Toys for Tots.

OMG last season, The Injury with the Foreman grill....I think I peed my pants a little during that episode.

You are going to be just fine for the cruise...Kick some anxiety ass and have a good time! Keep me posted because I really want ya'll to do the limbo.

Haha. It's a lunch one, so I'm not expecting too much limbo. I'll just be working on not panicking the whole time! Plus, our intern just shared that she was sick (v) briefly last night for like 20 min and is fine now. She did eat a huge lunch today. I did give her a hug goodbye today and was very proud of myself!

Rivers are generally pretty clam so I wouldn't worry about motion from the water. Now motion from the boat itself is aways uncertain. Some people are more sensitive to waves, others are more sensitive deeper vibrations like curise ships make.

I've never been on a yacht or cruise ship, but I have been on a riverboat and those make for a very pleasant ride. Too bad they're more of a southern thing or your office could have your party on one of those! lol

If you're concerned there's always good ole dramamine. Of course you have to be careful about combining it with alcohol since both can have a sedative effect, but I know most emets don't drink a lot anyway so you probably won't have a problem.

An alternative to Dramamine is ginger capsules. They are pretty effective against motion sickness based on my experience on boats, and they are natural so no side effects. Also, stay hydrated. Drink and eat something before you leave but make sure your stomach isn't too full (or too empty). I really think you'll be fine.

    Hope this helps.

I'm glad you had fun. That reminds me of the first time I had to ride on the backwards facing seat on the airplane. The poor people (strangers) sitting across from me! The WHOLE TIME we were in the air I kept asking "Do you think this is going to make me sick?" They offered to switch places but I was afraid it would make them sick and v* on me! Ha! I was fine, of course.
