I need quick help! My husband and I are going to his work Christmas party tonight, and then we are going to drive a couple hours north to stay in a hotel, and make the remainder of our trip tomorrow morning.

Usually at these hotel Christmas parties, there's some kind of buffet. At least the ones I've been to. What would you think would be super-safe to eat for emet and IBS. I don't want to be feeling miserable on a long car trip. Do you think I should go with beef or chicken? Definitely not fish. Breads are okay. What about rice dishes or noodles? Any suggestions!

if you're really that worried about it, you could aways bring your own lunch. honestly though, my philosophy is to stay away from stuff with mayo, like egg salad, tuna salad, or potatoe salad. watch the buffet and go with what they just bring out, then you know it's fresh, note if the food worker is wearing gloves or something like that. with IBS stay away from stuff that's greasy or spicy. Usually I take some bread, meat, and veggies or fruit if it looks fresh. But really, there wouldn't be anything wrong with you bringing your own food.

Well- I work in a hotel, and it's about 50/50 as to whether it's a sit down or buffet meal. Either way, I would eat what I want and not worry about it.

Everything is kept in a fridge until it is put out- and even then, the hot food is usually kept hot with stenos and the cold food isn't out long enough for it to make you sick.

Meals are also covered at work, so I eat there all the time (I usually work 2-4 times a week). I have been at this job since august, and haven't been sick yet. Also, the only time a guest had complained that the breakfast buffet made them sick was this whiny football player who wanted us to refund his room. It was a ploy to get some money back, not a legit complaint.

I would be more worried about the IBS than anything making you sick- so, I would stay away from rich foods, or anything spicy. Other than that, have a great time!

You know its strange, knock wood here, but I don't think I've ever had food poisoning. I eat buffets and potlucks, and I love them, and don't even feel scared. Now I don't eat egg based stuff or let my kids eat it, but really, its so un-emet of me to eat that! But like i said, never had a bad experience with it. Unless I had a bout of d* or n* and just didn't know it was fp. Hmmmm. At any rate, I say stuff yourself. Just keep an eye on what you eat, and like everyone else said, maybe steer clear of mayo based stuff. Janna

I just asked this question last week and got GREAT advice. I stuck to stuff that was super cold (as in, on ice) or hot (in crockpots and stuff) and I turned out ok. I even ate some veggies and dip and did ok.
