I didn't even know what emetophobia was until about.. 3 days ago. I always thought I just had terrible anxiety and that is what my psychologist thought as well. A few months ago, my mom and I had food poisoning and we both V*. It was probably the first time in about 8 years, so it was very scary to me. Now, for some reason, I always feel sick and very scared that I am going to V* again. Like today, my throat hurts really bad and I am convinced it is the beginning of the stomach flu... I go through this almost every day and I am really scared. Even if there is one little thing that feels wrong in my body, I am sure that it is a sv. I don't really know what anyone can say when they reply to this, but I just feel so scared all the time and I don't know what to do.

    Hi Emma,

First off---WELCOME!!! You will find tons of support here from some really great people!!

Second, let me try to reassure you on the sore throat issue. For the past week and a half or so, my household has had sore throats. First was my daughter, then hubby, and now me for the past 3 days. All it is is a sore throat and cough. We haven't had any more symptoms than that and none of us ever even lost our appetites. Hope that makes you feel a bit better Edited by: californiagirl

Thanks for being so nice! I just hate feeling like this. I really just want to be able to live my life again, but it's tough. The whole sore throat thing just adds to it, but hopefully it is just a little cold like Charlene said. Thanks guys, and I will be posting quite a bit, I have a feeling.

Thought i'd say another big welcome, I hope you find this site informative and supportive. Like the others say, it sounds like you have a cold and not a sv, so please try not to worry. If you worry like this alot, try keeping a log of your symptoms/feelings - it will serve as a useful record to refer back to should the same thing happen again. Next time you get a cold, you can look back at the log, realise that the last time it happened, your throat hurt, you worried you might v*, felt anxious etc., but nothing bad happened. This should help to reassure you that you're not going to v* this time either.

Not sure if that made sense...hope you get the idea!!

I actually am doing something like that with my psychologist. I write down when I am feeling bad, and good too. And then I tell him what came of it, and how I calmed myself down. I have not yet had a chance to tell him about emetophobia yet. I'm not sure he even knows what it is.

Bless your heart, Emma! I hope you find the support you need here, and with your therapist and your family. It is a struggle, but remember we are all in it together. There are others like you, and there are others who have overcome it. If they can overcome it, we can too.

    Stephanie
