Happy Holidays to all of you! Thanks for the site and the sanity.

okay, one minute i'm fine, the next minute i hear that someone is sick and i freak out. I immediately start asking questions and my husband rolls his eyes at me. I'm just very glad the holidays are over with the whole "GROUP" of people together all the time.

So i go into work today and this guy is leaving because he doesn't feel good. he said he was dry h* last night and now has chills, achy and just feels like crap. What does that sound like? So i immediately kept walking when i heard that. He's in a different building then me, so i was in his area for literally 30 seconds... Should i worry about anything?

How true do you think it is that emets don't v* if they are sick. i really want to believe it. I had an anxiety attack the other day. My mind takes over and I freak myself into believing that i'm going to be sick but it doens't happen. What the heck is wrong with me? When i go for my yearly check up to the doctor, if i ask him for an antiemetic, will he give it to me? what should i tell him?

Sorry for all the questions, but i'm hating life right now.

Well, I'm not a doctor so I can't say for certain but what you described that guy having sounds more like the flu to me than it does a sv.

I'm hoping that's what it is. There's major colds/strep going around PA right now. i think it's because the weather is so mild and there hasn't been any cold weather really, so everyones body is out of whack. I jsut need something to get my mind off of this stuff. It's taking over

Well I don't really believe that it's because it hasn't been cold.

I live in Georgia, so the weather can get unseasonably warm at any time, and has been a lot this year. A cold front came in right before Christmas so it's in the 40's and 50's now. But before that the temperature was pretty warm for December even this far south.

I don't think that there are any more sick people here in the winter than there are in other places.

"How true do you think it is that emets don't v* if they are sick. i really want to believe it."

Ask yourself: when was the last time you v*. If it was a long time ago or if you do it rarely, then chances are when you are sick you will probably only get d* like most of the people on this site. I think everyone's stories here are pretty good proof that for us it's rare.

I know personally I've been n* uncountable times in the last 7 1/2 years, came (what I felt was!) VERY close and still have not v* since 1999. I have been exposed to all sorts of nauseating things, too, including sv*, bad food and water (I've been to poor areas of South America, the Caribbean and the Middle East for service projects when everyone else on my team got sick and v*) sailing, long airline flights with other people actually v* on my plane, and during all of these times I really had to fight n* terribly in some form or another but I never v* once. Much of it is mind over matter, I'm convinced, and calming yourself down or using anti-emetics (I only use ginger) can help, too. Being well informed helps stave off panic attacks.

I guess what Sage (a brilliant psychologist who frequents this site) would tell you is that the point is not to prevent yourself from v* but to ease your fear of it in the chance that you must do it at some point. But even Sage, who has been cured of emet for some time now has only v* once since her cure. I think it's something some of us are just born with, and if you rarely v* when you feel n* then you were probably born like that, too.

Here is the link to a helpful website run by one of our site members. He explains more about emets and gives some convincing information about how infrequently we v*.

In that case I wouldn't give it a second thought. If he does have a sv* just about the only possible way you could catch it is if you touched something that was infected with his stool (sorry to be graphic) and then put your hands in your mouth or ate some food that he prepared in a sloppy way without washing his hands. Just talking to someone who has a sv* will not infect you. Even if you had hugged him or something (which you didn't) chances are that you still wouldn't get it with that brief contact, so I wouldn't worry. You have a higher chance that you will make yourself feel n* over the next few days because of worry than of actually contracting something from that guy. And even if you start to feel n* because of worry, my guess is you won't get anywhere close to actually v*ing and if you let yourself relax it will go away.
