Hi, this is my first post.

I'm 39 and have had emetophobia since I was 11, which was the last time I was sick. The worst thing for me is constant worry that my children will be ill and when they are I'm a total wreck for days. Does anyone have any coping strategies for dealing with this, other than avoidance, which makes me feel even worse because of the guilt.

    Welcome,

Read through the posts and you will see that many of us have children. We all constantly worry about the "when." We all are a wreck when our kids gets sick and for the days afterwards. It is a pretty consistent threme on these boards. The only thing we can do is wash our hands and maintain good hygiene. I think we also need to pass the good hygiene onto our kids and not just for avoiding sv. There are a lot of other weird bug mutations going on out there. Kids are bound to get sick, because they pick their noses and put their hands in their mouths. We just have to relegate ourselves to the fact that when they do we go into anxiety mode (while we are emets). I wish I could give you more sound advice. If I had it, I probably would not be here.
