hi just wondered if any other emets drink alcohol cos i havent seen any one that does!

the reason i ask is that i do! i am very careful not to go over the amount i know i can handle but i drink every night after my son has gone to bed. i know it is bad but when i feel drunk it is the only time i dont care if i am sick quite so badly! it relaxes me! i worry cos my dad is an alcoholic and i know i have compolsive traits.

do any of you drink?

I drink but not much and like you I don't go over a limit I know I can handle.

And I don't think anyone could find the time to be emetophobic and an alcoholic so I wouldn't worry about it.

have you tried stopping?

I used to drink in college, maybe once every few weeks, but I made myself sick several times and got sort of turned off. Now I love a glass of wine now and then, especially before dinner, but I don't think of it unless someone offers it to me or I'm at a nice restaurant. My dad is an alcoholic and I've heard all about how that makes me more likely to be, but I've never drank all that often or had a problem with it.

I don't think that sounds like alcoholism. I think alcoholism is when you wake up needing a drink, not enjoying a drink every night. I drink regularly and sometimes get 'merry'but I am very aware of my limits.
Today is the tomorrow I dreaded yesterday and I\'m ok.

Nat having a drink every night is not a problem,an acholic is someone that can not go without a drink from the moment they wake....My father was an alcholic for 45yrs and only gave up 8yrs ago so as a child i was fully aware of what happens and how people react.....As long as u are not binge drinking as that can do more damage then say someone that drinks everyday.....A few glasses of wine an evening is healthy, there are alot of different countrys that have a glassof wine or two an evening to enjoy a meal, like the italians and they are suppose to be the healthiest....Just be aware of how much u are drinking and try not to become too dependent on it as i'm sure u are fully aware of the problems that come with being an alcholic.....My father is very sick, through drinking for so many years and wishes he had never used alchol as an escape route from his problems.....Maybe u should speak to your doctor about it and i'm sure he will reasure u.......I don't drink but i choose not to as seeing how it affected my own father and also the emet side of things,i always like to feel that i'm in control of what i do and when i did drink, which was under aged,i didn't like the taste and always felt ill....so i choose to give up at the age of 18 and i'm 32 now and have never touched a bit since.....But some people say that if someone in your family was an alcholic then u could be the same, but that is so un true and we all have choices in life and we can either follow that line or not but both my mother and brother are not even drinkers, maybe a odd glass at special occasions but there are other ways to try and relax.....i.e a relaxing massage or bath, these can give u the same feeling as alchol but can benifit u in your health aswell......

I hope u don't think that u are an alcholic because it has been mentioned on here....Take care and keep safe

I dont think you are an alcoholic! But be careful that it doesnt develop becasue emet cam make you do things you dont want to.

I dont drink anymore becasue i dont want to drink incase it does make me v*. I used to enjoy drinking but now im just to scared to. I dont want to do anything that increases the risk of my v*. But all people are different. But my emets that bad that i dont even want to go into a pub or be around people who are drinking.

Hi Nat,

I also drink a couple of beers almost every night. I like the taste of it and how it helps me to relax a bit. I always drink the same amount (3 bottles of beer) and it doesn't make me feel drunk or anything, just relaxed.

I don't think I have a problem, because there are no bad side effects to it, with me. I am not aggressive because of it or something like that. Oh, wait, there is this one side effect: it doesn't help when you are trying to lose weight .

I do hope that some day my emet is a lot better and I don't have the need to relax, because I feel relaxed allready. Maybe then I will drink less, maybe not. I will see.

Nat you are not an alcoholic. I like a drink every night too. I am a lager drinker and I usually have 2-3 pints a night of fosters which is fairly low alcohol but I am never drunk and I don't get drunk, only merry occasionally when I drink more than that which is not often. I know when I have had enough and drink plenty of water before I go to bed every night. Some people smoke, some people do drugs, we drink! I know lots of people who don't touch alcohol and because of that they tell me it is their belief that I am an alcoholic. I disagree. I only drink in the evenings and have never ever had a drink in the morning - I couldn't. I never touch spirits either because I don't like them. Please believe me when I say you have nothing to worry about. Claire x.

Nat, I am not a specialist and cannot say that you are or aren't an alcoholic but I can tell you that if drinking everynight to forget about emet helps, well then I can't blame you, nobody can, alcoholics drink for many different reasons, mostly to forget also, but baby, what we've got is really bad, so I say you keep on doing what your doing if it helps you, and when you feel strong enough one day and you start doing better, you won't need that glass or two a night to stop the craziness in your head.

Don't start stressing that you are an alcoholic, because your not. Maybe I'm a pill popper because I take ativan whenever I have a panic and it helps me.....We just need it.

And to finally answer your question....I never touch alcohol for fear and try to avoid even those who do drink!

Take care....Feel Good!

yeah so do i... i dont drink at all.. dont see the specialness of it... if u see what i mean.

plus, they do say a glass of red wine a night, is actually GOOD for you.. so drinking evrynight, depending on the amount actually, does not mean u shud worry about being an alcoholic!!

I don't drink regularly, but on certain occasions I'll get a little plastered. Like, a couple times a year at most. I've never gotten sick from alcohol so at the moment it's safe for me. I'm pretty picky though; I hate beer and stuff..theres only a few things I like drinking so that's one reason I don't do it much. Everyone always has these 'hip' drinks that try to make you think you're not drinking booze. Screw that; lamb's navy rum is the ticket.
what a horrible night to have a curse.

I don't drink - I hate the stuff it makes my IBS worse and it does no favours for your body, inside or out. You should maybe speak to someone about it though, Nat as that kind of thing can run in the family.

Good Luck!

thanks for all your advice. i do drink a bottle of red wine a night though or if i havent got any then i will drink anything in the house, even neat whiskey cos i have been told it settles your stomach! like today i have felt really sick all day, went to docs bout stomach cramps i have been gettin, he says its just indigestion, then had massive panic attack when i went shopping with a friend, thought i was gonna v* so went home, felt sick this evening, had bottle red wine and feel much better!

i think cos emet is in my head i have it in my head that alcohol will make me better if you know what i mean!

i do worry about it damaging my body and it does make me bloat up and put on weight cos when i got pregnant and stopped drinking i lost half a stone straight away! i promised myself i wouldnt start again after he was born but a year on its slowly getting worse again.

i feel something is missing from my night if i dont have a drink, maybe its got worse cos me and my boyf are really not getting on! xxxxxxxx

Well, being an alcoholic myself, I can say yes, I do drink. I
drank to self-medicate, to forget about my anxiety and misery and just
feel good for awhile. Only you can determine if you're an
alcoholic or not. Drinking every night doesn't necessarily make
you one. But if you find that you are exhibiting behaviors of a
potential alcoholic--thinking about drinking throughout the day, a
dissatisfied feeling unless you are drinking, hiding drinks from loved
ones, drinking becomes less enjoyable to you and becomes more of a
necessity. If you get anxious if there's no alcohol in the house,
if it's affecting your relationships with other people. For a
real list, you can visit the Alcoholics Anonymous webpage. They
have a section called "Am I an alcoholic?" Only you can diagnose
yourself.

I got clean and sober for a month and then fell off the wagon. I
never drank during the daytime, and refused to have a drink before 6
pm. But that didn't mean I didn't obsess about it all day long,
anxiously awaiting that evening drink. That saying "once an
alcholic, always an alcoholic" is correct. After just a couple
weeks of drinking, you end up just where you left off.

When I realized I was trying to self-medicate with alcohol every night,
I knew I had to get to a doctor. I finally went--today in
fact--and he prescribed Paxil CR for me, and Xanax for the next couple
weeks until the Paxil really kicks in. I can't really drink on
meds either, so that will basically force me to quit drinking.
I'd rather be on prescribed, carefully monitored medication than be a
drunk anyway.

Just be careful if you drink every night. If you think you might
have a dependency problem, feel free to email me at
[email protected]. I can try to help you. If not,
then enjoy---cheers!

That's just what I was going to say.The fact that you drink every night doesn't say anything about if you have a problem or not.It is how you perceive alcohol and how much you are obsessed with it. Finally it comes down to: "do you mind drinking every night". It seems you do, and that means maybe you have to do something about it.

You know what I realized after reading Heathers post? That I feel the oppositie: I rather drink some beer to relax than use medication like xanax. Beer just seems to be more 'natural' than those chemicals pills that I don't trust.

Okay i dont think drinking every night is a problem, but drinking every night to escape emet is.

But thats just my opinion...sorry if it offends anyone.
