try lice. third time in a year that my 5 year-old's brought it home. and i think i have it again too....itch itch scratch scratch. i spent the morning at the laundromat washing all the sheets and pillowcases and stuff while hubby did a treatment on her, after which i checked her hair and there's still some eggs. so now i'm waiting for the professional lice busters to come to my house. and after a few hundred dollars that i don't have, it should all be okay. please just shoot me now.

i hated head lice wen i was little.

my mother spent ages with a shampoo and a fine tooth comb to get it all out.

i wore a hat to bed so it didnt get into the beds.

    hopeb it clears up soon.

Aerodynamically the bumblebee shouldn\'t be able to fly, but the bumblebee doesn\'t know that so it goes on flying anyway.

I would rather have permanentlice than permanent emet. At least you could cut off your hair or something.

But I do remember one april fools where they joked my dad had lice. I was devastated that I ran out of the house crying.

Ugh. I remember getting it once as a kid. My sister and I BOTH had it at the same time and also spent hours in the bathtub with that special shampoo. My mom had to wash everything. I felt sorry for her. It really does suck.

My daughter has just caught lidce from her cousin, humppfff... its really dificult to get rid of them, but washing all your sheets wont help!! The die if they arent attatched to the hair, you cantcatch them off sheets or brushes or anything like that! Trust me ive had enough experience with them, there are lots of epidemics in the schools near where i live. but you can get rid of them in a few days byt washing the hair then conditioning it and beofre u rinse the conditioner out, going thru the hair with a fine toothed comb, the lice hate conditioner, they loses their 'stickiness' and cant grip the hair. you do this everyday for a week and then they will be gone. you'll even get all the newly hatched eggs

I couldn\'t tell you why she felt that way... she felt it everyday and i couldn\'t help her... i just watched her make the same mistakes again...

I was just about to write exactly what Sarah has said - you don't need to use nasty chemicals to get rid of the little creatures - just a fine toothed lice comb and LOADS of conditioner. My daughter's primary school referred to them as 'hair flies' so that the kids wouldn't feel so bad about having them. Keep reminding yourself that they prefer CLEAN hair and scalps and a recent study in the UK found that between 75% and 90% of middle class girls from well-off backgrounds have evidence of a current or previous infection. I found it helped me to get over the initial shock (and I hate to admit, mild revulsion) to learn all I could about these amazing little insects. I know you may think that referring to them as amazing is wierd, but they truly are - they ONLY live on human head hair - how specialised is that?!!

To get back to getting rid - don't be ashamed. Remember they favour clean hair, and you can get rid easily and quickly with the conditioner trick (if you do everybody's hair with conditioner and the lice comb every couple of weeks you can stop them coming back too). They are making a come-back because of central heating and the open-plan, relaxed nature of classrooms these days - they CANNOT jump, but ony transfer by direct head-to-head contact. Young children pass them round easily as they often sit with their heads together when in school or playing. You can't stop them socialising, but you can learn a bit about hair-flies so that you don't get so freaked by them. And your kids will stop getting them as the get older and the head-to-head contact stops (as it does naturally as they move up through school).

    Best wishes, Jill xxx

Just wanted to add that the conditioner and lice comb treatment really works - DS's had them at the same time and I did it everyday and we were soon shot of them - adding a few drops of tea tree oil to the conditioner helps too as the lice h-a-t-e it.

Also, as a preventative get an old gel spray bottle, fill with water and 15 drops tea tree, shake well and spray on your kids hair before school, then brush.

I admit I was horrified when DS's got them - DH had to go through my hair (which is more than halfway down my back) and I was so pleased he didn't find any!! I spent the next fortnight wearing my hair in plaits with a bandanna covering it!! Euuuuggggghhhhhhh!!
