    It's really been bothering me.
What are some quick, effective ways to stop nausea?

for me it's deep breathing, running, anti-emetics, sedatives and (don't do it!) cutting.
crying was also a relief but it doesn't work anymore.
It was hard but I'd do it again (c)

I attack mine somewhat excessively, I think. I usually start by taking Hydroxyzine (my allergy medicine, which also acts as an anti-emetic ~ if I don't have any of that on hand, I use Dramamine) and some ginger tablets. I make some tea (herbal or green) and sip it slowly. If I have ginger ale, sometimes I will drink that instead. If I am comfortable with food (sometimes I am, sometimes I am not) I will try to nibble on some saltine crackers. I get a heating pad and lay it over my abdomen and try to sit or lay in a comfortable position. I also will take my acid reflux medication and/or Lactaid (depending on what I ate recently). Then, I try to breathe consciously and keep my anxiety down. I will try and take my mind off of the n* by keeping myself busy with something else, but it doesnt always work. I try to run over all the situations of my day in my head and try to figure out if I had any potentially bad food or if I accidentally touched my face or mouth with dirty hands. It is all about trying to relax for me ~ more often than not my n* isn't even real.Edited by: swtcatastrphe

Here's a question for swtcatastrophe...have you ever tried using the dramamine as allergy medicine or a general purpose antihistamine? Some here know I'm *quite* allergic to poison ivy and I have occaisonally taken dramamaine immediately after I think I've been exposed to PI or for allergies also...it seems to help. Is it just in my head? Others comments are welcome too.

When it's just anxiety that's making me n* I drink a lot of water. I also try to steady my breathing and maybe read a book or something on the computer. But most of all, I try to laugh. It's really hard to laugh when you're at a low point with your anxiety but if you can manage it, it basically makes the n* completely disappear. Only if it's from anxiety though.
When I'm actually n* from sickness I usually do the same things I mentioned above. When those don't work I take Phenergan and drink some ginger ale and eat crystallized ginger until the meds kick in. I'm usually okay after that.

And about Dramamine as an allergy medicine- I don't know if I've heard of anyone using it that way. I do know that my dad has severe nasal drainage from his allergies and his doctor told him to take Dramamine when it gets really bad. I think he told me it dries up his sinuses, but it might have been something else. He might just take it for the n*, I can't remember. Our conversation about it was several years ago.

Sounds like it works for your dad against allergies then. Its interesting I don't know if you've noticed but phenergran is also prescribed for allergies as well as nausea. I think I'm gonna say its a go for dramamine as a general use antihistamine.

Yeah, when I had the flu Phenergan was a miracle because it stopped my n*, helped me sleep AND stopped my runny nose.

Dramamine is an antihistamine, so theoretically it probably could be used
as an allergy medicine in a tight spot.

"Dimenhydrinate is used to prevent and treat nausea, vomiting, and
dizziness caused by motion sickness. It is most effective when taken to
prevent motion sickness rather than waiting to treat symptoms that have
    already started.
Dimenhydrinate is an antihistamine. It is not known exactly how
dimenhydrinate stops motion sickness. It is thought to work by blocking
a certain natural substance (acetylcholine) and preventing its effects on
the inner ear. The inner ear helps maintain your sense of balance and
    position."

From what I understand, a lot of "First-generation antihistamines" (like
Benadryl, and Hydroxyzine, what I take) also work as anti-emetics.

"Antihistamines also work in the part of the brain that controls nausea
and vomiting. This is why they can help prevent motion sickness."

A couple horrible stories I've heard lead me to believe dimenhydrinate is actually a pretty good anti-emetic. Around my area a few years ago this couple was accused of feeding a special needs relative a box of snuff followed by dramamine so he wouldn't v* it up and so he died. Nicotine acts on the v* center of the brain so it would normally have caused a severe v*ing reaction.
