Yep you are in the right place. It depends each one of us is different.
Some of us are fine v*ing ourselves but are thrown into full panic if
others do it around or near us. Myself.. I can handle others v*
however IF there is a chance I may v* I am in a panicked state. That
was my main issue previously when others would v* if I saw others..
I then too would v* That scared me but in the end found out the root
of the fear was all about ME v*ing.
So no its not just ones own fear of v*
Therapy is the best place to start for getting help for this phobia. Also
in the meantime if you can maybe go to a book store check out the
"Anxiety and Phobia Workbook" by Edmund Bourne. It has helped
me a lot in every day life situations when I can't be in a therapists
office.
