Default new here, my story i guess....

hello all! it is sooo nice to find a place where people actually have the same fear as me. I have felt like a freak for years. I got my phobia as a child when my father got sick everyday.. turned out he had a bad galbladder.. but it was crazy reading all the stories and feeling like it was so simular. i used to be a singer but had to give it up as i started getting to nervous about nausia. I am now 40 and haven't gotten sick to my stomach since i was 16,, knock on wood. but the stomach flu is going around where i am and i am in full panic mode. My partner tries to understand but its hard, they think i just need to get really sick and it will all be ok again. WRONG i have a not bad handle on it in summer as not many people get the flu then. But this time of year just kills me. I hate that i can't sing anymore, and i am on disability for a panic disorder. If i wasn't so afraid of throwing up, i could work, have savings for once in my life, sing again, feel normal... the usual stuff im sure we all face. Thank God for this site. I am looking forward to getting to know some of you. Has anyone found a good cure yet??? wouldn't it be amazing if we could stop this stupid phobia? i know i would like to be free again!

Hi and welcome It's really nice feeling when you know you aren't alone, isn't it? I'm sorry to hear that this fear has stopped you from singing. Do you take meds for your panic disorder? A lot of people on these forums take anti-anxiety medication and find it helps a lot. As for a cure - I'm not really sure. Some people have found relief by using hypnotherapy, though I'm not exactly sure how it works. Basically we need to find the root of our fear - and yours seems to be from seeing your father get sick so often, that would definately be frightening for a child to see/hear. Do you have any children? A lot of people here have kids and it can sometimes lessen the fear; ie. seeing that throwing up is a normal event - and kids usually aren't scared to be sick! Also, I don't think you need to get sick to cure this fear - that doesn't make sense! Do you go to a lot of effort to prevent yourself getting sick?

hi there, thank you for writing back to my post. well i am not on anti depressents purley as they can make you nauseous. i take larazapam on and off, but it makes me really moody and dizzy. I dont have any children, I have seen almost every therapist you can see where i live and none really helped. one of them actually put a garbage pail infront of me and said we are going to do this! i told her if i had to go through her to get out the door i would! needless to say i never went back to her. i tried hypnosis once, but cant afford to keep going as i don't work and live on disability so i only have enough to live, and that is barley. this phobia has taken so much from me, I hate it!
I have come a long way, before i wouldn't leave the house, wouldn't eat past 7pm, sometimes i wouldn't eat at all. i thought of it constantly. Now i just get really bitchy when the stomach flu is going around as i am afraid to catch it. and if someone i know has it i treat them like they have the plaque. its so embarrasing having this as it runs your life at times. i really hope they come up with something that will just either take the fear away, or something that can stop you from ever throwing up.

I wish there was something that made you not throw up, would be a miracle for all of us.

please let me know if you can or have found something to take that will keep you from throwing up for reals....
i have used phenegran and comazine. Seemed to work will until one night 4 years ago i woke up in the middle of the night very sick to my stomach. This was the second time this happened in a 2 year period. I have 50mg Phenegrans from my doctor because of my fear of vomiting, i take a piece of it not the whole thingg because it makes me very tired. It has always worked except these two times. I use to have comfort knowing i had this magic pills with me at all times but now since they didn't work even after taking several pieces when the first few pieces didn't work, i have lost that comforting feeling i use to have by having them with me all the time.
If you find a pill that for sure stops ands keeps a person from vomiting, please let all of us know what it is..

Wow! My father was sick for 12 years of my most impressionable years. I am now 25 and still suffering. He has passed on in 2002. I'm glad to see that i'm not the only one either. I have been struggling since I was about 8 years old. I wonder if there is such a relation?
