    Default Nights are worse

Hi, I've just joined and have to say how helpful it is knowing I'm in a forum of people who totally understand what it's like being emetephobic. I'm 32 and have had varying severities of being emetophobic for 20 years.

For some reason it's got worse over the last few years. I dread the winter months when noro is at it's worst. I look at the newspapers in the shops daily waiting for the inevitable Stomach Bug Sweeps UK. Lately I've had so many close calls with people who've had it and then spend the next few days waiting to get it.

It's night time when I'm worse. I wake up most nights around 2am and convince myself I've got a bug and have to get up until the nausea passes (at least an hour, usually two). This forum is so great though as no-one in my life really understands. They don't realise it's in the Top Ten most common phobias.
And unlike others, there is no escape from the fear of v*. If you're scared of spiders you can simply leave the room. What can you do with this? It's an invisible enemy and that's what makes it more terrifying for me.

Sorry for rambling, it's just nice to write some of it down and to be among friends.

Welcome. I joined this forum not too long ago, and it has already helped me immensely. Just knowing that there are other people out there fighting the same battles you are is extremely comforting. I know how you feel about nights... the majority of the times I have v*d have been at night... so that's a tense time.

Again, welcome. Glad that you're here to find some support!

Oh my gosh I feel the exact same way. That's what I tell people too. If you have a fear of heights, you don't have to do it that often. When you have a fear of food because of this dang emetophobia (because I'm convinced everything I eat will make me throw up) we have to face our fear at least three times a day and it's awful. I'm so ready to get rid of this.

    Welcome to the forum!

I'm in the UK as well. I do the same thing, nervously looking for the newspapers to see if it mentions noro. Hopefully it's died down now. I'm worse at night, too. These days I can't go to bed until at least 4am, or I will just wake feeling very sick. It's a nightmare!

I agree nights are the worse, even if you don't feel s*, feeling any kind of ill is worse. Any time I wake up in the middle of the night i convince myself I feel ill, but I always have a fan and mints by the side of my bed just in case. I totally agree that's it's something that you can't just walk out of the room for, but i'm glad there's support around

I agree. I used to take Ambien because my irrational fear that my kids would wake up at night v* everywhere actually induced a really long term insomnia. It's gotten better (for now) and I'm off the sleeping medication, but again, I agree, nights are worse, and I'm not even sure why.

Welcome! Take comfort that this website is on 24/7 - meaning that somewhere it's always midnight.
