Default Ugh, win some lose some, I guess.

Well, I had a very small victory last week at a Youth Rally when they showed a very graphic picture of a guy v* on a roller coaster, and not only did it not affect me, I thought it was hilarious. (Though it did warrant the expected "OH EW!" from me, lol) I've really been doing very well lately. Working at a school, (well, technically two schools) I'm around sick kids every day and it has ceased to bother me. Especially since I've hardly ever caught anything from them, since most of what little kids get are things I've already had anyway.

I don't feel very victorious tonight though. The teacher whom I am assistant to was extremely ill today at school. Just looking at her you could tell she felt horrible. I was already in a state of thinking, "okay, I just got over a bad cold, please don't get me sick again" when near the end of the day she starting running out to v*. Like she was literally in the middle of dictating a note to send home with a kid, (I'm very new at this so she had to tell me the best way to write it) and made the awful face which alone could make most of us cringe and ran out.

To my credit, I kept very calm the whole time, and I felt so bad for her, but now I'm having a hard time keeping my cool because I was in a small classroom with her all day long, most of the time right next to her because her voice was scratchy and I had to get close to understand her. I kept expecting her to go home early because, hello! You're throwing up! But the poor lady didn't, and is still determined to show up tomorrow if she can at all make it. Judging by look of her today, I don't expect her to, which is scary enough seeing that I have only been her assistant a week and now I'm faced with running her class, (yikes!) but I also have the looming possibility of catching it.

I'm feeling okay so far, except for that annoying worried feeling and anxiousness about going to bed, and I'm holding out hope that either she's past the point of contagiousness, (she's been sick all weekend) or my nice young immune system will save me! (She is considerably older than me) That along with my Airborne. Yay for Airborne.

I bought an mild antiemetic though just to have on hand to make me feel better, lol.

Wish me luck in not catching it, guys. Because I'm pretty sure it would be disasterous if both me AND the teacher called out sick.

    That sounds traumatic!

As long as you washed your hands before eating, and kept them away from your face, you should be alright!

Sounds to me like you'll be okay. Wash your hands, drink lots of OJ, etc etc. Remember even if you do catch it, it doesn't necessarily guarantee you'll V*. Though it would still suck if you got sick [in general not just if you V*d] , its not a terrible thing to get a small or mild case of it to toughen your immune system and give it something to chew on. I applaud you keeping your cool. Alot of phobics probably would have lost it when they saw the look on her face before she ran out to V*. Im only mildly emetophobic, but I still can't stand being around someone I know is sick like that.

I gotta say though the whole "I must go to work even if I'm sick as a dog!" attitude she has is just irresponsible. You can hardly get anything done feeling terrible like that and will probably give it to other people. Maybe she doesn't have any sick days left for work? Also,I just thought of it: she might have eaten something that didn't agree with her a few days prior, so it might not be something you can catch anyway.

Great job keeping your cool! Good for you I'd have the cold sweats right now if I were in your position!

But you're doing great, and are an inspiration!!! Way to go!

Good news! I never got sick! I was very anxious all that night and had a hard time sleeping, but once it was morning and I was still not sick, I was fine.

I agree with it being rather irresponsible going to work when you're that sick. I mean, you can't very well call out everytime you're not feeling well, but this woman was ill. She was still out today even though she had quit v*, but she had a 103 degree fever. I think some people just have a hard time admitting to themselves that they're sick. But right now, with H1N1 and everything, I would never dream of going to work at a school if I'm that sick if for the fear of infecting children if nothing else.

Anyways, thanks for the encouragement! It makes me so happy that I can be in a situation like that and not flip out, like I might have when I was a kid.

that makes me so angry as a teacher. I am a mom and do everything I can to keep my children healthy and if their teacher was in school vomitting I would be on the phone with the principle...so irresponsible and just gross. what a way to spread germs!!! Glad you havent gotten sick. so far so good. you said she was sick over the weekend and her voice was scratchy? maybe she does have h1n1?

I mentioned that to the principal, saying that I hoped she was going to the doctor because I thought of that same thing. She had all the symptoms. I never got a call today though telling me I'm teacher tomorrow, so I'm assuming she'll be in tomorrow. We'll see!

Good to hear your feeling well. Hopefully if she comes in tomorrow she wont be sick anymore. X/
