Hello, I am new and a little nervous. I have emet and have been suffering with this for a very long time. I was hoping to talk with others who experience this with me. I tried the chat but no one was on. The flu season is approching and I am freaking out, all I do is think about it. I am having trouble eating, sleeping and going places. I am becoming very depressed.

We know how you feel and you're welcome here! For some reason people are never on the chat :/. That always kinda bums me out because I've needed someone to talk to in the middle of the night before. But anyways, posts are almost always responded to, just let us know how you're feeling and I'm sure we'll be right there with you! Welcome

Thank you for responding, I am trying to figure out how to connect with others on here. I have been looking for help for a long time and always felt that I was alone in this and it is comforting to know that other share my fear. I go through so much that no one in my family really understands, but knowing that you guys understand means so much and I am looking forward to getting to know you.

Welcome! I know exactly how you feel and I'm sure everyone on here does. My teacher has had sv* for past two days and was in today. I just hoped she washed her hands lots because she had them all over my work. I did wash my hands twice afterwards though and will not be touching the sheets for a few days. It's awful

I hate this time of year

Yeah I eat chicken occassionaly like if my mum makes it but I won't eat anything else. I definately won't touch raw meat.

I don't drink alcohol or anything fizzy I just stick to juice.

not eating meat is a good side effect from emet......red meat isn't good for anybody.....so don't be embarassed to say you don't eat it. it's really hard on the digestive system. i stopped all meat several years ago.....feel much better.

i think we all fear the sv season in here........i enjoyed when spring rolled around and we all seemed soooo much better

good hygiene is your best defense ........

    welcome
    how i feel about emet

I don't know if any of you guys tried this before but when I feel like I ate something heavy and my stomach starts to hurt and then I get anxious I take a couple of papaya enzymes, it is supposed to help you digest and I feel it works for me.

Kathy- i understand how you feel. I have 2 sons one is in kindergarten and the other in preschool and I worry everyday that this will be the night...It is definately hard. But as you know I am a Christian and I do my best to give it to God. He knows our phobias so trust in him to take care of them. Also try to think about how rarely we do get sick. It is our minds and the sooner you can understand that, the better off you will be. Think of all the other times you have felt this way and never gotten sick. I mean im 33 and I have only thrown up 3 times in my life and the last time was when I was 10. I went through 2 pregnancies, 2 labors, and 4 stomach viruses with my kids. I also travel all over the world and eat whatever I want, meat, chicken, sushi, etc.

Thanks for responding, is Ann your name? Wow you sound like your a learning how to beat this phobia, I have times when I feel I can cope better and then their is times like the FS when my anxiety starts up and I feel no one is listening or can help. I too have two kids and I still don't handle their sicknesses well. It has been a very long time for me also since I'v been sick but I keep thinking that it may happen anytime.

i am trying my best to cope...i have always been afraid of getting sick ever since I can remember. I also always suffered from anxiety/panic attacks (didnt know what they were though until 2 yrs ago). I think somehow the 2 crossed paths. And evertime I had panic I thought I was going to vomit. I can now handle any kind of vomit unless it is contagious, if I know I can catch it, then Im a nervous wreck. I never even knew there was something like a stomach virus until I had kids.

2 years ago I came ill with meningitis and after then I became very sensitive to the feelings in my body which made me even more panicked....I am slowly getting better. I did also just start taking prozac after trying many anti anxiety drugs and I am loving it. I know that at some point in my life I am going to be sick...I hope not soon but Im sure I will. but some people never get sick, so I do have faith. My therapist is 67 years old and she has thrown up 5 times in her life and never had a stomach virus. I also have become gluten free and lactose free, bc I do have intolerances and it has made me feel so much better. I also take a probitotic, l-glutamine, a digestive enzyme and an extra stomach acid pill.

    You will get through this!
