    Post cruise????

I am really wanting for myself and my husband to be able to go on a cruise this summer for our vacation. On one hand it sounds like so much fun, but on the other I am afraid of becoming seasick or having anxious feelings the whole time we're on the trip. Advice anyone??

    GO FOR IT!!!!

You will love it. The ships are so large they hardly rock at all. They are amazing technology, very safe, and like a city on the water.

You WILL NOT become seasick. There is enough entertainment on the ship to keep emet off your mind, too!

I work on the engines of ships and oil rigs and spend alot of time on the water. Many of the rigs are way smaller than a cruise ship and even they are too big to rock and cause seasickness.

Once again - don't hold back, GO FOR IT!

    Sincerely,
    David

Cruises are amazing! I've been on 5. The bigger the ship the less they move, some of them are so big it's like it doesn't move at all. In any case it's rare to get seasick even on the smaller ones, they have stabilizers.
Royal Carribean is great, I've gone with them 3/5 of my cruises.

My grandmother LOVES cruses, she has probably gone on 100 of them. She says that the boat is so big that there are only 2 ways for someone to get seasick on them.

    1. Stand on the upper most level of the ship (like up in a tower-ish thing) because that will sway farther than any other area. According to her, that is the only place that you really feel/see the sway.

    2. End up in a big storm. In all the times they went, my grandfather did get seasick once. It happened when they sailed through a really nasty storm and that was probably 15 years ago when they had smaller ships which move more during high waves than the much larger ones they have now.

Also, they have a doctors office type thing on board, you can just go there and get anti-motion sickness meds, and they are really strong ones. I bet they have anti-anxiety meds too. If you get a cabin in the interior of the ship you miss out on the view, but it stays even more motionless, and they are cheaper too. The best room to avoid any chance of sea sickness is one smack-dab in the middle of the boat.

My grandmother has been trying to convince me for YEARS to go on a cruse (regardless of the phobia, I just don't like boats. I don't trust them.) and she has assured me that I wont get seasick. Everyone I've talked to who have gone on cruises (my friends, my mother, my grandparents, my parent's friends...) have all told me that seasickness isn't an issue and that cruses are SOOOO much fun.

If you decide to go, I hope you have a great time!

Cruise ships provide free anti nausea meds to anyone who needs them... they work exceptionally well and don't make you groggy. Ask before you book.

Have a great time if you decide to go!

My dad keeps telling me to go. I'm not afraid of seasickness so much as I'm afraid of a noro outbreak. Can't imagine being on boat full of hundreds of people vomiting.

Noro outbreaks on a boat are rare. It's just the media likes to make a big deal about it when it does happen.

Thats exactly why I don't go on them. The sewage could leak into the tap system or, the chefs could have it, and they might be preparing food that doesn't need cooking......

Well in a way this has made me feel a little more secure about it, and a little more paranoid all at once. Thanks for all the replies. We will probably go

    This ABSOLUTELY CAN NOT happen.

The tap water is distilled from seawater, then treated to inhibit germs that might find a way into the water after it is distilled. The cooling water for the ships engines heats the watermaker (distiller) before it goes to the engine's radiator. If the engines are running, there is limitless fresh, distilled water.

    Alfa Laval watermaker link.

Working offshore, the potable water is so good compared to city water. The soda fountain and ice tea made with watermaker water is alot better than what you get in town, with chlorinated city water!

Going home from offshore, the air smells "used" compared to the fresh sea air, and the city water tastes like bleach compared to the distilled seawater offshore!
