    Default OT: Auditioning For X-Factor

Singing is something I've been passionate about my whole life. I did musicals all through school, sang in church, and sang every chance I got. In college I went as a Jazz/Pop Vocal Major. I had to drop out due to financial reasons, however singing has never stopped.

Now, X-Factor auditions are about 4.5 hours south of me. I really think this is something I want to do. My only concern is that these things tend to be very particular when it comes to a look and sound. I'm not a scrawny teen, and I don't have a pop or rock voice. I'm a fuller figured 23 year old who sings Disney and Showtunes generally. I mean, do I even have a shot?

For those of you who are wondering what I sound like, feel free to give any of these songs a listen to get an idea. I really am passionate about this, and I think I can do well, but I'm not sure how it may be recieved.

    Songs:
    Own My Own Showtunes
    Part Of Your World Disney
    Young Country
In Your Room Soft Rock (A song I've dedicated to emets)
For You Soft Rock, heavily filtered
Graceful Fire by Fox Amoore Just a basic vocal part, but a super awesome song.

Feedback (positive and negative) is totally what I'm looking for here, as well as any thoughts or discussion. Whatcha think?

    Do it, why not?!!

I'm a semi-professional singer, (I get payed for my weekly gigs, but it's not enough to live off yet) Show tunes usually work really well with audience if you can pull it off well, of course. Since you have some vocal education, I'm sure you can pull off anything you want! Do it!!

I'd classify myself as semi pro as well, I do get paid for online collabs and a few gigs. And yes, On My Own is from Les Mis.

I'm doing Britains Got Talent, I would do X-Factor if I was old enough. (I'm 12)

Ohh I love On My Own! You definitely should audition if it is something you are passionate about, good luck to both of you. It would be great to see an emet on there!

Thank you so much! My main worry at the moment is finances. I can easily take the time off for the audition, but if I go to second auditions or third (or get through) I don't know if I could afford all that travel on my own.

On my Own, that would sound amazing!

Don't worry about the finances yet, time can solve tons of issues!

You have a nice voice I listened to On My Own. Your tone is GORGEOUS! I'd classify myself as semi-professional as well, leaning towards professional. Sometimes I can live of my gig money, sometimes I can't... I'm studying singing at uni at the moment. I had no idea there were so many singers on here

Anyways, I think you should do it! Definitely do it! I went to see the Australia's Got Talent auditions last night, and if the judges are anything like the Australian ones, the biggest favour you can do yourself is show your personality.

Anyways, Good luck! I definitely think that it's worth auditioning, and if you get through to the second rounds, I'm sure you can find a way to raise the money to get there

Ahww, so cool that there are so many singers here!! What do you study, KaydeeJayde? Classic? Jazz? World?

@Asianeko I went to school for jazz, but also didn't finish it due to financial problems. "For you" is also very pretty, but maybe not suitable for X-Factor. I'd still go for the tune from les miserables.

I'm so excited that we have so many singers on here!! Do you post your music online anywhere? I'd love to hear you all!!

@Lieke, thank you for the input! My only concern with On My Own is that Les Mis music is so overused since Susan Boyle did I Dreamed A Dream.

Hey! i studied classical for 8 years with a private teacher, since I was 10-ish, now at uni I'm doing a bit more jazz, some more musical theatre, because I've been a musical theatre kid for ages. Maybe I'll start a thread just for singers discussion Fun fun!

Oh, and Asianeko, can I suggest a song? Look up Moonfall from the Mysterious Case of Edwin Drood. It's BEAUTIFUL and practically unknown. I'm going to record my version of it later.

Wow I have never heard this one before. Sounds gorgeous!! I don't think I have the range to do it, at least not the way I would like it to sound. Anything above an E isn't as strong as it once was. I had a polyp my senior year of high school and still haven't recovered my full range

asianeko - Life's too short for should I/shouldn't I. Get in there and show 'em what you've got, hun!

I'd love to be able to sing, sadly, I'd probably get arrested if I tried to do it in public

Thanks for all the support guys. I've decided I'm definitely going to do it. If anyone else is near New Jersey, auditions are April 14th.
