People think it's just a fear. They don't understand "phobia".
This is pretty much what I was going to say. People who don't suffer find it hard to understand. We are all so compassionate towards other phobias/mental conditions because we know first hand what it's like.
I know sometimes I mention having a phobia and someone says, "Oh, yeah, I'm afraid of ___, and____, and ____"
No, I'm AFRAID of spiders, but I don't have a phobia of the, There is a difference, which people can't grasp.
