Exclamation I did the one thing an emet should never do!

    Hi loves,

Today I was at the mall and somehow a piece pf cotton got into my mouth and without thinking put my unwashed, unsanatised fingers in my mouth and pulled it out

How could I be so careless?!

I know I sound like a complete nut, but I have been extremley panicky this whole week.

    Advice? Magic words?

I don't really have any advice, but I will tell you that I used to put my hands in my mouth all the time without washing them or sanitising because I was a compulsive chronic nail biter and I have never gotten sick from it. I think you'll be fine

I'll tell you I put my fingers in my mouth all the time. I'll be in the middle of grooming a dog (who hasn't been bathed yet) and get hair in my mouth. I have to pull it out! This might be after shaking somebody's hand, or using the pens up front that are used by dozens of people per day.

Even at the mall, I'll go shopping, or just walking around looking, and order food and eat without washing my hands.

I even used to be a nail biter!

But just because you stuck your finger(s) in your mouth doesn't mean you'll get anything

It's fine, people put their hands in their mouths ALL the time without washing them and it rarely results in sickness. My boyfriend picks things off the floor and eats them, he picks his toes then chews on his fingernails (from the same hand), etc... etc... and he has thrown up once in the past 10 years.

I kind of feel like it's something an emet SHOULD do to STOP reinforcing the idea that everything is going to make you v*! I feel like I constantly need to challenge things that make me uncomfortable to help break this phobic cycle. The more I do the more "evidence" i have to fall back on when I'm feeling anxious about things.

The other day I was thinking about how "careless" I used to be before my phobia got really bad, particularly in high school when we never had time to wash our hands before going to the cafeteria. And drinking after all of my danceline friends! It's amazing how little I worried about it then.

What a great idea, a rewind button for our lifes! I think that I would go right back to before I was born, & choose better parents, as the ones I was saddled with were complete losers.
