I play the flute and the piccolo and love them both but the piccolo can really damage a person's hearing. I have to wear ear plugs when I play piccolo. I can't soak them because of the corks in the head joints but i disinfect the mouth pieces and wash them a lot.

lol, its not that I'm bad at playing it, but the pitch is soooo high and loud that if I am in a small romm and there is no other noise, I will have a ringing in my ears, and not be able to hear for up to 30 min after I stop playing. Ear plugs help because they actually can damage hearing. I didnt know that harmonicas could get that loud!

Haha :P I don't think that a dirty instrument is a risk for illness, it's just gross :P I'm a singer... that instrument doesn't really need too much manual cleaning... Haha :P

I mostly sing, but I can get by on Guitar and Piano if I have to. I don't really disinfect my guitar, I just wipe down the strings to get the oils off. Same with the keyboard

I play violin and guitar, which only need a wipe down since they don't go near your mouth. Having said that, as a child I played recorder and never used to wash it (only wipe it on a soft cloth) and never had any problems with it. When we use recorders at the school I work at though, they do get washed in soapy water before and after use, since they are 'communal' ones and other children might use them.

I play trombone and in High School I disinfected my mouth piece every week or if someone picked it up and played it. Now I don't as much, but it gets nasty if you don't! The joy of mouth pieces and saliva. lol They can have germs, but someone with a virus would have to be playing your instrument ya know? You're pretty safe
