Need Advice

So I know that my 6 year old is an emet too. She has learned very quickly by watching me I am sure, to wash her hands constantly. She does wash her hands more than most kids her age, but she is petrified that she is going to v*. I feel so sorry for her, but I completely understand! The tops of her hands have become raw, from washing and using hand sanitizer too much. At first I thought she was having an allergic reaction to the soap she was using at school, so we took her to the doctor and he said she was washing her hands too much. When should I not let her wash her hands? She does it after she goes to the bathroom and before she eats anything. It freaks me out to not let her wash her hands before she eats especially when she gets off the bus. What should I do?

since she is so young i think i would try to find a therapist to work with her and nip this stupid phobia in the bud.......she's soooo young to be bothered by this.

i think washing hands after using the bathroom and before meals is pretty normal.........although i must say i don't usually do it.........gross i know. but i would not make a big deal about it with her.......don't want to scare her into anything.

We are in the process of trying to find someone that can help her. The therapist she was seeing told her she was being silly. I didn't like that so we are looking for someone else. Thank you!

That just made me mada therapist of all people told ur little girl she was being silly? thats just awful yea i would say find a new one for ur sweet little girl anyway my kids wash there hands after the bathroom and befor they eat when they get home from school or store and if they were playing out side with handsanitizer inbetween and there hands dont get raw but i live in florida if you live in a colder climate i can see how hers would get raw.Good luck finding someone new for ur dd
