Unhappy Totally freaking out and so frightened.

I have just got back from my grandmothers house, who lives down the road from me and when I'm home I visit her regularly.
With her in the house is my grandfather and uncle who has downs syndrome.
They usually never get ill, apart from the odd cold here and there which doesn't bother me, but tonight was different.

I hadn't seen her in a few days so I took a walk down with my mum and the dog. When I got there, as usual I sat next to my uncle and gave him a kiss on the cheek and he gave me a wee kiss on the cheek back, and then I turned to ask my grandpa how he was.

He responded with "oh ok, not been well this week, me and your uncle have had some bug that Alistder (my other uncle that lives close by) must have given us"
As soon as he said this my brain went into overdrive and I almost started crying.

My uncle attends a day centre and had been there today/yesterday and is going tomorrow which made me assume it wasn't actually anything serious. But Im terrified of getting s*.
I am going back to my flat in Glasgow on Sunday, that I live in on my own as I have my degree show this week It's the most important thing in my life to me and if i get s* and miss it I don't know what I'll do.

When I got home I used bleach to clean my hands and face, but I'm worried I might have swallowed germs or something, as my granny gave me tea and cake when I was in.

Help me. Im freaking out so bad

try and up your immune system by getting lots of sleep, and taking vitamins...just because he had it doesnt mean you will get it you will probably be just fine

Im usually so healthy and things so I assume I'm okay as i never get sick (probably due to the fact I'm totally OCD on hygiene too)
But I just got so scared as he kissed me on the cheek and his saliva was on there. Also, what if I inhaled some of the germs? It's been 5 hours since I was in my grans and I'm wide awake worried to death :'(

I don't think the virus got in your mouth if it was present. If you are OCD about your personal care I think you will be fine. The only way the virus is transmitted is from the v* and feces. When did he get over the bug? Are you sure it's a stomach v*? By the way, I don't think you inhaled the virus either considering it's not airborne.

I scrubbed myself to the point of rawness when I got home.
Im not quite sure when he got over it, Im assuming it was probably tue/wed but he was in the day centre, and i know my gran would not have sent him unless he was better, but this doesn't really put my mind at ease as it's a bit vague. (and i din't want to ask much as my grandad would have gone into loads of detail )
I don't know if it was a 24hr thing or not, my mum said if it was noro he'd still be unwell, which I kinda agree with. But neither of them vomited (or went to the loo) while I was there..
It was just the saliva thing and being near them/using the mug/maybe touching something before eating the cake.

Well I assumed it wasn't cause he never mentioned anything about D* just said "me and your uncle were sp*wing"
my uncle and grandfather both have heart problems and mum said they are "susceptible to things more easily" as they are not in good health. but my other uncle that had been visiting and had apparently given them it, is fine health wise usually. but thats all i know. also my gran hadn't caught anything as far as i know.

What does sp*wing mean? I have never heard that term before...It's true, people who get older have lower immune systems. So, your immune system may be stronger. It's always good to take your immune system into consideration because it is naturally built to fight off viruses/bacteria/anti-gens. But, you should directly ask your uncle if he v* and had a SV. I think that would ease your anxiety. If your gran did not get sick then I think you are very fine with the tea cup. I understand how you feel. I get worried whenever a suspectible situation occurs. The best solution is just to distract yourself.

    Spewing = V*
I'm not sure where you are from or if you use it there, but over here it's just another horrible word for being S* or V*
I never really see my other uncle, but I'll maybe phone my gran tomorrow and ask her. Im just scared it will make me more anxious and worried.
My mum said a million times over that I'll be okay and that at her work she's had to deal with V* a lot and never caught anything. But it just doesn't help

If I wasn't around any actual V*/didn't use their toilet, then does that mean I'll be okay?

EDIT: another thing...would I have been sick already if I HAD caught something?

I think you are going to be fine! Yes, to your first question. It depends on your second question. When did you go there? If you went there today you will know from 1-2 days if you were to be sick. I can't tell you for sure whether you will get sick or not. But, I think you will be fine. If calling your gran makes you more anxious and worried it's best not to do it. So, use your own judgment with that. I think the best thing to do right now is realize these facts:

    1. You can only get the stomach v* if the virus is in your mouth and you swallow it
    >Your gran may have washed her hands before touching your glass
    >The virus is not found in saliva unless mixed with V*. In the case of your uncle, I don't think the virus was present in his saliva. Even if the virus was in his saliva you will be found unless his saliva went in your mouth
    >If you didn't stick your hands in your mouth you will not get it

As you can see, there are a lot of factors that are involved. I honestly think you will be fine because you have good hygiene. Having good hygiene is how you avoid the SV and not putting your hands in your mouth.

Thank you so much Ben, really. Although still slightly anxious, you have definitely put me at ease. It's now 5am and Im still awake. Hopefully now I'll feel calm enough to get some sleep.
Ill be counting down the hours until I feel like I'm in the "safe" zone.

Thanks again, it's nice to talk to someone that doesn't make me feel like I'm being a complete weirdo.

Hopefully I'll be back on tomorrow without any worries.

Okay so, at the moment I don't feel anything and it's been 15 hours since I was at my grans.
I'm trying to stay positive, but every so often it pops into my head and my heart will start racing.
I just hope I continue to feel alright.

I'm sure you'll be fine, really. It gets pretty tense when you're anxious, but usually there is a short incubation period. I think you would have felt something by now if anything was going to happen. Just stay calm, keep washing your hands and get some rest, it'll all be over soon. *hugs*

actually makes me laugh to here you say spewing - its such a glaswegian word (i'm from Glasgow but live in NZ!)

Hope you're doing okay. Very much doubt you'd have caught anything - doesn't sounds like they were symptomatic now and old people are so careful with germs and stuff!
