    Default prednisone side effects

Does anyone know about prednisone side effects? I got a steroid shot for poison ivy and was given a prescription for prednisone. I started the pills on Tuesday and today I have had to go to the bathroom ALOT! It started about 830pm going to the potty but i didnt feel great around 1 this afternoon. Is this a virus or a side effect? Its now 1 am and i am still going only now its all clear and its not a lot but my stomach is still grumbling. HELP! I am not feeling nauseated but I am afraid that might come later. Will it come on so much later after the bathroom visits began?

Are you urinating a lot? My dog is on prednisone and she pants a lot, drinks a lot, and has to pee a lot. Your body probably is just getting used to it. If it persists I would call your doctor.

It's a nasty drug, but I never had any stomach side effects that I know of. I only took them for a few days to get rid of some poison ivy as well a couple of times. My doctor said the side effects really manifest themselves when you take it long term like for lupus or something like that. I hate it but I'm afraid for folks like us that have the bad PI reactions it's the only answer when it gets bad enough that antihistamines don't help and we can't just grin and bear it.

I took prednisolone (which is very closely related) for a few months. I only felt nauseated once, when I forgot to take them with breakfast, and took them when I remembered. I felt ill within 10-15 minutes or so, and it went away when I ate something. So long as you take them with food you will be fine, and if you were going to feel nauseated you would have done before the bathroom visits (since I guess the nausea must happen when the drug is in your stomach, and the d later when it's in your intestines).

Thank you all for your replies. I decided to take myself off of the prenisone and suffer with the poison ivy. The good thing is that the steroid helped to kick of the healing process, so the itching wasnt quite as bad and the rash began to fade right away. I def do not want to find myself taking that stuff again and now i know STERIOD SHOTS HURT!!!!! lol

I suggest you be really, really, REALLY careful around PI and its close cousins. It doesn't take much for people as sensitive to it as us. Case in point last fall, I cut up a tree for a neighbor, it was vine up with unknown vines, suspected poison. I promised to take care of it so I sawed the logs up and loaded them into my truck anyway. I was careful not to touch my face I thought and hurried home to shower thoroughly and discard the contaminated clothes. I also took that familiar emet standby dramamine, a full 100mg dose, since it is not only antiemetic but a powerful antihistamine. All this was done according to plan within an hour of exposure for sure. Within the next few days I starte noticing a few pustules here and there and they wound up bad on my arms and chest with a few on my face and a few more in an area I wont name in mixed company. Well for me this was a fairly mild case so no prednisone. It only took 3 weeks or so for most of the rash to go away. Interestingly I did get one positive side effect, the blistering action of the poison burnt off a particularly unsightly skin tag I had under my eye. It's bad stuff no doubt and I'm sorry it got you.
