I have never been positively diagnosed with h pylori in fact the stool samples and endoscopy were negative for it. However I had been taking lansoprazole meds and this is known to mask the infection. My dr is treating me for it cos my symptoms are the same plus the chance of a false negative result.
My main symptoms are nausea, sometimes its so severe I cant do anything, tenderness of the upper abdomen, a feeling of fullness-like Ive just eaten a huge meal even though I may not have eaten anything for hours. Also lately Ive had foul smelling burps! They taste and smell like sulphur which can be unpleasant and embarrassing. If this treatment doesnt work I have to be referred to a gastroenterologist for further tests. That isnt something I want cos when this first flared up back in January 2009 I went that route. I had an endoscopy, which showed up inflammation of my stomach lining and polyps, an ultrasound and ct scan. When nothing major showed up I was discharged with a half arsed diagnosis of gastritis and IBS. Just over a year ago all my symptoms just seemed to improve and I was more than happy to go with that diagnosis thinking it had just run its course. Now however its back and I feel so let down both by the drs and my own body.
