Default Something's Wrong With My Stomach and I don't Know What.

So for about 4 months now I've had this on-off stomach ache/upset stomach. I've been feeling so sick I've lost around 30 lbs because I'm too scared to eat half the time. I've gone to a doctor for it and just yesterday I had a colonoscopy. Apperantly everything was normal. I have no idea what is going on and so far, neither does the doctor.

Has anyone had a similar problem? I can't live like this, I've lived off crackers and bread for the most part, once in a while I feel good enough to eat a small meal but this is rediculous. If I can't figure out what's wrong I don't know what I can do.

    Have you had an endoscopy?

Not an upper endoscopy, I did have a colonoscopy if that counts, and it didn't show anything it came back normal, but I'm sure I'm not imagining the stomach issues.

I would get an upper endoscopy. I had similar symptoms and it was an ulcer.

This happened to me about 4 years ago. I returned from a vacation and had an upset stomach on and off for about 6-7 months. I went through every test in the book, Upper GI X-rays, Endoscopy, Ultrasound, bloodwork + more, and they found me to be perfectly healthy. After spending a bunch of $$ on these tests & doctor visits it was determined I had anxiety. I don't take any anti-depressants but I was given Xanax and Klonopin as needed. It took me a while to feel better but in the end I realized I was feeling so sick because I was so hungry and if I went long periods without eating I would actually feel like I was going to be sick. If I ate every 2-3 hours I was fine. Starving myself for 6-7 months + the anxiety actually caused me to develop IBS so now I deal with bloating & stomach cramps if I go off my eating schedule.

I would get the Endoscopy just to be safe (and maybe for piece of mind) and then if that is normal, I would suggest seeing a therapist

This happened to me when I first developed emetophobia even though I didn't know it at the time. Had every test imaginable, saw a ton of doctors and specialists, nobody could find anything physically wrong with me. I too lost a lot of weight - 35 pounds in a month. I could barely look at food without getting nauseated and my stomach always hurt. As it turned out, it was anxiety. It's amazing what chronic stress can do to the body. As others have said, get all the tests done to rule out anything physical but it may very well be anxiety.

Back in 2009 I started feeling n*, had pain in upper part of my stomach and lost a lot of weight. I couldnt even watch food adverts on tv without it turning my stomach. After a load of tests including an endoscopy I was found to have gastritis (inflammation of the stomach lining) and pernicious aneamia. I was given various medications but for a long time these just seemed to mask the problem. Then slowly I started to feel better, but if Im honest it wasnt until a couple of months ago when my dr gave me a combination of 2 strong antibiotics to combat a h pylori infection that I really felt good. Ask your dr to test you for that - its a bug that lives in the gut in about 50% of the population but in some people it can lead to ulcers. Hope things improve for you very soon.

like most of the others above, i had several tests done during a time when my emet was really bad....hospitalized for 3 days.....they found nothing......all anxiety based. prozac has really helped me.....but before prozac was available i took 5 mg valium once a day. it's amazing how good you can feel when the anxiety subsides.....

it's good that they are checking everything out.....i definitely would get the endoscopy to let them look at your stomach.....i know it sounds scarey....but it's really not bad at all.....

    hope you feel better
    how i feel about emet

I apreciate the feedback to be honest, but I've known I have anxiety for quite a good while, and I have had this phobia for as long as I can remember, and Ive coped fairly well with it, so when my stomach started acting up the 4 months ago I got the feeling it wasn't anxiety caused, although I guess it's not totally unreasonable that it could have spiked in the past months, I have slowly started feeling better the past couple weeks, but still no major improvement. I think I'll get an endoscopy for good measure next time I talk to the doctor, and I've already seen a thearapist for a few things and I've worked with anxiety so that's how I've worked through most of my anxiety. I'll have to keep in mind the things that a few of you said you had aside from anxiety because I would like to rule it out for now.
