    Default Scared witless!!

Hi I am a newbie to this forum, I am a 42 yr old mum of 4 (16,15 girls 7,4 boys) and terrified of v*. I don't think I am a full on emetaphobia as I have had children, I eat out, I even worked in a hospital for a few years, I just freak when there is a s bug about, today my sons friend came to play, a few hours after he had gone his mum rang to say he had been S* and I panicked, I get very agitated if I feel s* I hate the feeling of n*' last time my son was S* I nearly passed out! I went dizzy and hot, and was a mess!! But I can clear it up...just. I had therapy but it didn't really help, I just can't rationalise this huge fear I have....

Hi Nesstabbycat and welcome to the forum! I'm similar to you...I worked in a hospital for a few years, eat out and such however, I still have a fear of actually getting sick myself. In your situation, I would've freaked out too. I probably would've washed the entire house down with bleach after I found out. Anyhow, welcome. You'll find lots of help and people to talk to here.

Thank you! I am laying in bed with laptop searching for anti sickness meds I can buy over the counter, debating wether lime juice is better than ginger, I just go to pieces, every cough my sons make at night turns my legs to jelly and I feel panic all over! Why is night time worse than the day!!

Get yourself some greek yogurt too. I read an article recently (I posted it on these forums somewhere) that stated yogurt can eat some of the virus that causes the stomach virus. It's worth a shot anyhow. I'm not certain there's definite science behind it, but it might help you to feel better.

Night is worse for me too. I think it's because I feel alone or something. Like there's no one to help me if I need it. I don't know. Like you, I don't suffer from an extreme case, but it sounds like you and I are very similar in our fear. It sucks either way and isn't fun. I was so relieved to find that it's an actual phobia. I felt like I was the only one out there. It seems most people just throw up and go on; my wife included. Wish I could be more like that when the dreaded moment hits (which is luckily, extremely rare *knocks on wood*).

Like I said i don't stop eating out, using public toilets/transport, I just get very panicky when I know ther is the SV about...kids dropping like flies at school...I am on my own and it's my worse nightmare to be woken by s* kids! it hard to sleep as I have said, the slightest noise from the children has me going cold with fear, yet my son was S* during the day once, and I cleared it up, him and managed a smile, but what I really wanna do is pat my children on the back and help them when they are poorly, I have a 4 yr old, I can't leave him to fend for himself!!! My mum lives 5 miles away and she is on constant "can u come round if I am s* alert lol I really really can't stand the feeling of N* managed to be s* the other week, and thought "wow that wasnt too bad". That eleation lasted all of 2 days......then the fretting and constantly thinking about it sets in. Funny but I can recall nearly every time I have been s* none scarey as such, but not sure why I need to retain those memories!!!

Hey! As long as he wasn't showing symptoms/ sick at your house you'll be fine! Might be a plan to bleach the bathroom and keep up good handwashing especially before eating. I know what it's like to be up at night worrying about every little noise. I'm really bad for that at the moment which is nuts because my folks never get bugs (touch wood!). Defi get yourself some ginger - it's awesome! I like the tea and take the capsules every day as well. And probiotics are meant to be good too. Hope you manage to get some sleep x
