    Thumbs up Things that make us better - Another Let's Get Better Thread

    So, everyone agrees that this forum is full of panic and noro threads. I saw the Let's Get Better Thread and thought, why not another one? I've been thinking about creating this thread for some days now, and I think it would be good for all of us.

    Well, the title says all. What makes you better when you are having a panic attack? Random things, I think I'd rather not allow anti emetic meds here, because to get rid of this phobia we have to get rid of them first.

    One thing that always make me better is a hot shower. What about you?

    If I'm anxious or whatever then I just draw, draw and more drawing. I must do at least 6 pictures on my computer a day.

    I just breathe and think happy thoughts. It also helps to have a distraction, like watching youtube videos, a good movie, etc.

    We can't have too many Let's Get Better Threads! Slowing down my breathing to as slow as possible really helps calm me down because I find I can't breathe nice and slow and deep AND panic at the same time.

    Laughter ALWAYS snaps me out of it, even if only for a little bit at a time. If my husband is around then he'll usually break in with a one-liner. If I'm alone though I have to rely on prodding my cats to do something funny...

    Some deeper breathing and distraction like laundry or cleaning.
    Watching something funny
    Sipping ginger tea...if I don't get the nausea then panic won't get worse.

    I had a huge fear of the letter T because for me it stands for throwing up. Yesterday my therapist made me earl grey tea before our appointment and I told her how much I loved tea (I'm kind of a fanatic) and she told me to start associating the letter T with earl grey tea instead of throwing up.

    I also have a fear of the numbers 22 and 23 because I was sick on those days, and she calculated it and said, "You have gone 120 22nd's and 23rd's since you were last sick, your birthday is on the 22nd."

    I've only seen her twice, but she is helping in making me better!

    Playing with my dog helps, he's so funny I can't possibly be upset and panicky when he's around, as does talking to my non-emet friends because they give me some perspective.

    Jenni, I agree-- cold air feels wonderful when I'm anxious. The sensation of peppermint in my mouth helps, too. And distraction, distraction, distraction . Tonight I was feeling anxious in the car, so I rolled down the window; it was really windy and cool and just starting to sprinkle rain-- felt great to feel the air and rain drops on my face!!

    -Watching Scrubs.
    -Listening to all sorts of music, but specifically video game OSTs (and even more specifically, Okami! The soundtracks are so lulling and soothing).
    -Playing some Pokemon on my DS...especially if I got on HeartGold and turn on the item that allows the music to switch to the original Gameboy colour music. Nostalgia helps so much.
    -Sipping some yummy cream soda.
    -Opening any and all windows for some cool air.
    -Inhaling the scent of sandalwood from my buddha-bead bracelet and doing my mantra on it.
    -Reading; though Animorphs books seem to work the best. I believe it has more to do with nostalgia again.
    -Doing some window shopping on ebay (works like a dream, somehow...especially if I start gushing over amazing cosplay outfits and how I'll never afford them. ; u ; ).
    -Simply feeling my chakra gemstones. Whether or not they actually do something, they still work like a dream.
    -And talking to my wifey. <3

    Oh, forget to mention; love to see something like this in the general chat forums! It's awesome to see how people cope, the nice things that bring them back up from panicking.

    Deep breathing. Muscle relaxation. Letting go. Acceptance. Reminding myself that thoughts are just thoughts. And crossword puzzles.
