Default Cousin's baby has rotavirus, but wants to get together next week...Opinions?

My cousin and I made plans to get together next week since we are both on spring break. Our babies are just 7 weeks apart and we live 2 hours apart. Since we are getting ready to move 800 miles away, we wanted to let the kiddos spend some time together.

However, her baby hadn't been eating or drinking much for the past 2 days. Today she started having really bad d. She hadn't had a wet diaper in 24 hours (I know...that's a long time and she should have taken her in way before that) so she took her to the ER. They did tests and confirmed rotavirus.

My son's pediatrician thinks he had rota last month and he's had the vaccine. But, should I chance it? Would you? I don't want to overreact, but I know rota can last awhile and I'm afraid she might still be contagious on Tuesday.

I'm not a parent, but I'd definitely go. Your little one has had rota already and had the vaccine, so chances are low, I'd think. And Tuesday is a pretty long way away, so I think you'd be absolutely fine to let them get together and have some fun, especially since you're moving so far away.

Aww, poor little one Maybe take it day by day. See how she is by the end of the weekend and then make your decision? If she's still really unwell, give it a miss, if she's doing better, see how she's doing on Monday and go from there?

I know you guys live a long way away, but that's how I worked it with a friend of mine who lives about the same distance away a few weeks back. She was meant to come see me on the weekend. On Monday, she told me she was vomiting and having a really bad time, did I still want to keep our weekend plans. I asked her to text me how she was doing on Thursday and she was much better, she was meant to be coming on Friday, but she just ended up coming over on Saturday and staying til monday instead of sunday instead.

Hmm, I wonder if she will be well enough to visit by then? I'm not sure I would go. I would probably put it off, just to be safe, because I wouldn't want to chance my child getting something that might potentially make them severely dehydrated. Can you guys push the visit back a little?

I agree with Kaydee, I would take it day by day and just see how the baby is doing by Tuesday. If the baby has been admitted and is that dehydrated, I imagine your cousin is probably frantic and the last thing she's thinking about is a playdate, so she might want to postpone anyway! And we all know how long rota can last....ugh
