Question Little one V every 3 days, really down.

Hello all. I am posting this on the general forum, but am in the process of falling apart and so I'm hoping to reach as many people as possible. If you have heard of someone, particularly someone under the age of 7 or so exhibiting these symptoms, and who got a diagoses, please let me kn Althougj this is not graphic, it may be triggering for those who are sensitive. My little girl, nearly 4, had 4 or 5 very soft (creamy) bm's in Wed+Thur of last week, ( not. D like really) She was tired but otherwise fine. On Friday all day she was fine, normal bm's, then she suddenly got very tired, slept, and suddenly woke with extreme belly pain, (she indicated her whole belly hurt). Shortly after that sh V'd bile. She wad immediately demanding food relentlessly and was in great spirits, and so my husband fed her 4 biscuits, one piece of toast, and half a cup of water. She played and ate happily for the rest of the weekend and had perfect bm's. Then on Monday lunchtime she suddenly got tired and slept again. Woke up with a sore belly again and at around 7pm, she V'd again. Again, afterward, she was starving hungry and in good spirits immediately. Fed her, she slept and all was well. Yesterday, at around 5 she got tired again, slept, woke to a sore belly again, and again, V'd. She has had perfectly normal bm's throughout, and when she v'd each tim it was vast amounts. We visited her doc this morning who is running tests on her stools and urine, he thinks it would be strange for an Sv to have no d, or any other symptoms, but we'll have to wait and see. The poor wee honey looks so distressrd as she realizes whats about to happen and along with all th other stuff goimg on in the family, I feel like I'm having a breakdown. If anyone has anything, however small that might shed light on the matter, please don't hesitate to share! Thankyou for taking the time to read this. X

What comes to mind is possible food allergies, or a digestive condition. What is the doctor testing for? I'm so sorry you and your daughter are going through this. How frustrating!

I was so anxious, I didn't ask. I finally came clean to my husband about how bad I am as really feel close to desperate measures. I don't drink but last night in the fear of it all I couldn't think what to do. I had a little on Friday, but last night, I went to use the bathroom (he was laying with her on the couch) ans as I passed the music room and saw his top shelf whiskey on the fold down door. I took the bottle and went to our room and drank five shots straight. The feeling was immediate comfort!. I have decided it is the perfect medicine for anxiety. It feels like I'm being punished for something! Perfect punishment for an Emet!. I think she's getting ready to do it again! Just looked, and the doctor is testing for parasites, Rotovirus, and Uti. He also mentioned it could be Volvolus or whatever it's called, (twisted intestines). We are getting urgent results and going from thete. He runs the urgent clinic so we can go down if it starts again. I will keep in touch. Thanks for asking. Xx

I hope you get some answers soon, Mamafear, and that your girl feels better soon. Was your husband understanding when you talked to him about it?

So sorry you are dealing with this, Mamafear. I don't have any insights, other than I agree that it doesn't sound like an sv. I hope you get some results and answers soon for your little one

If it turns out that it's not a food allergy or none of the usual things, you may want to ask the doctor if it might be a condition called cyclic vomiting.

My guesses wld be either a food allergy or abdominal migraines. The sleeping first makes me think abdominal migraines.

Oh, poor little thing! Praying it's nothing serious like a bowel obstruction or the like. Perhaps a food allergy? Crohn's? Some form of IBS? Thank heavens she was able to be in good spirits in between time. I firmly believe some people are just more prone to v*ing, and perhaps that's her stress reaction? Oh, hugs Mama! Hang in there!

Thankyou for all the input, she managed to keep it in lasst night, but the gut ache makes her think she's going to. It's just so much voume each time, but fortunately just one 'set' of 3-4 v each time. I wish I could do it for her. Daffodil, my husband has taken it very well and has been v supportive, but atm we're both really jumpy, just because we're worried and it hurts to see her so scared (she can't catch her breath it's so much). Chris, thank you for the suggestion, the symptoms fit perfectly! The doctor said that it's almost definitely not good allergies though. Trying to be brave, Abdominal migraine seems to fit too. They are two conditions he didn't touch on. He said that some kids get a 'kink' in their intestines and before it unkinks itself, it causes copious v. I wish we Emets were gifted with a 'FF' button!. Chris, I feel as bad as I've ever felt with my Emet but I am able to function to a degree. I keep thinking of what you said about it completely destroying your livelihood and I am so sorry you're so incapacitated, let's hope this up-coming Noro Vaccine helps our anxiety a little. I will keep the thread updated, and pray that there is essentially nothing to update. Thank you all again, this forom is an incredible support! Xx

Thanks mamafear. I've been doing better because I finally got it through my thick skull that I have to face my fear, there's no way around it if I want to get better, and I'm determined to get it under control by fall when I start college, otherwise, I'm screwed. Glad to hear you're functioning to a degree through all you're going through even though your anxiety is high - you can do it! You ARE doing it.

This hypnotherapist I was seeing (didn't help but thats besides the point) - his daughter suffers from cyclic vomiting syndrome and the doctor treating her said they think it's caused by abdominal migraines.

I'm so sorry to hear your little one is feeling so bad! I'm glad to hear it isn't food allergies, but I hope it's something that will resolve itself soon. You're doing a great job keeping your sanity! I hope the doctor can solve this mystery and give your daughter some relief. ((hugs))

i'm sorry you little girls feeling so miserable are you seeing a therapist of any kind? you mentioned you've only recently had really bad emet, sooner you see a therapist the bettter off you'll be as for your little one, it ddoesn't sound like a bug at all. vomiting can happen for sooo many reasons and i really doubt a bug is the reason. i'm guessing some sort of GI issue, maybe severe reflux, since its bile thats coming up. glad you've got tests under way, hope you can find out whats gong on soon and that your girl feels better! xxx

Thanks again everyone for your support. Tomorrow is day three and it is absolutely terrifying knowing that at around 10 tomorrow it's likely to happen, I am out of my mind scared, I would seriously rather be hit by a bus!. Am leaving here at 8am to spend the morning building a play villiage with the girls, as it is her 4th birthday tomorrow and we also celebrate the hour they were born so at 12:24pm, we'll unveil her wee house. Hopefully she'll also get gifted with good health and no more V. Xx

The fact you can time it sounds like it's a physical/anatomical problem, maybe Crohn's or Coeliac.
Hope you can get an answer soon; maybe further testing with an ultrasound or CT would help.

So sorry to hear you're all having to deal with this.

Well I hope she feels better soonz the pattern thing is really unusual. I would definitely go for the further testing if necessary. Hope things come together soon and that her birthday is great.

    Hi mama
So sorry about your sweet little girl. I hope you were able to celebrate her birthday with nothing bad happening!
Your situation reminds me a bit of when my daughter was an infant. She developed a condition called pyloric stenosis at about 5 weeks old. As she grew the little muscle connecting her stomach to her intestines "twisted" to the point where very little food was passing through. She would take several bottles but eventually there was no more room in her tummy and then it would all come back up (luckily it was only formula so I handled it ok). They finally diagnosed it when she was 7weeks old-it had gotten to the point where she would TU every bottle. Once it was so violent she choked and we had to call 911 to get her breathing again. She had to have emergency surgery but never had a problem again.
The reason I bring this up is because it sounds so familiar, especially when you said you could actually preditct when it would happen next-I was the same exact way! How have her bms been-is she going less than normal? I've not heard of pyloric stenosis occurring in toddlers (its almost always infants) but you may want to talk to your doctor about doing some GI tests on her to rule out some other kind of medical problem. Those tests are not fun and it will be scary as a mom for her to have to go through that, but would be worth it if they can get to the bottom of this! I'm so sorry for the both of you :'(
Please let us know how she, and you, are doing!
    Hugs, hugs, hugs!

mamafear -so sorry that she's going through this. hopefully they will include an ultrasound or CT as someone else has mentioned just to make sure there are no obstructions or inflammation. It might be good if she eats small, easy to digest things that can get by the GI tract easily.

hang in there and i hope you guys figure it out ASAP!

I was thinking it could be Coeliac (celiac) disease too- if this is the case then there will be an end to her symptoms as soon as gluten is removed from her diet. Equally it could be some sort of food intolerance or something completely different. I think i'd be surprised if it was rotavirus but I could be wrong.

I really hope she feels well soon. It must be so stressful and upsetting for you but you know that the doctor is working out what's going on so she will be okay soon.
I've tried the alcohol-as-medicine thing before and it's not the best idea! Thinking of you!

Brief update, we had all her tests back negative but for some reason they're running the parasites one again. She's lost nearly two pounds since we've had tests done and she's very very clingy. Be good to get some answers as we're both so worried. Will keep thread updated. Thanks so much for input and support. Xx ut

Hello all, our doctor called us today and all her tests were negative again, and so he thinks it's likely to be abdominal migraine, but his second thougjts are some intestinal looping. We need to pop in every 2-3 days to moniter her weight and fill in appetite and pain pattern charts. I am in a non-stop anxiety attack. I am finding it impossible to stop thinking about it, I can't sleep without waking over and over frightened, I don't want to be alone in the house and am extremely anxious, shaking etc if my husband is out for a bit. I'm freaking out that something is badly wrong with her and that I won't know what to do to help her. It seems each time someone is s* my fear is increased exponentially. This phobia truely is a living nightmare and I'm sorry for every one of you having to live with it. Anyway, that wasn't meant to be a rant about how it is affecting me, but to tell you about our progress. Thanks again for all your suggestions and support. You're all wonderful people! Xx

((Hugs)) You are doing the best you can in this type of situation. It isn't easy. Even a non-emet would have trouble with their little one v'ing every couple of days!

I'm glad they are giving you some idea of what it might be!

Thanks. How is everything at your house? I know the fear you get when your baby won't drink, I microanylize my children non stop and if they do anything out of the norm, I panic!. This motherhood malarky is hard enough without Emet!

He v'd twice this morning. I don't know what is going on. I'm fearing it's a sv, but he has eaten and had a full bottle since (about 4 1/2 hours ago) and hasn't had anymore v'ing or d. UGH! You are so right...it is hard enough!

Maybe it's just me, but when I know that my kids' v* is from something I'm not likely catch like if they are motion sick, overate or some other illness I generally don't get, I can handle the v* fine. It's only when I know that it's probably a sv* that I freak out, b/c that's the most likely thing I can catch that can bother me. So if it helps, try to tell yourself when you daughter does v* that it's something that you cannot catch and it won't happen to you. I hope they find out what is going on, have they recommended seeing a pediatric gastroenterologist yet? Unfortunately my family are EXPERTS on intestinal disorders and gastro doctors! My sister and father both have Crohn's.
