Hi everyone! I've been lurking for a bit, and decided to sign up today
I am a stay at home mom to two girls, ages 4 1/2 and 2. I am pregnant with our third and final baby (another girl!) who is due in May. I don't know when exactly my phobia started, but it was sometime around the age of 5 or 6. I don't know what happened that caused it, all I know is that I'm terrified.
My 4 1/2 year old started school this year. This was the year I was dreading since she was born, because I KNEW she'd be in contact with soooo many germs. She has been sick CONSTANTLY over the school year - she's had all the common illnesses, colds, strep throat, pink eye, and of course.....in February...the exact virus I was DREADING - Nv. She woke in the night saying her tummy was hurting, and I knew what was coming. Thankfully, my husband is AMAZING about it. He isn't the least bit freaked out. He stayed with her through it all (8 1/2 hrs....every hour.....), kept her in her room and then in the basement. My youngest daughter and I just hung out on the main level of the house and I didn't let her go into my oldest daughters bedroom or the bathroom she was using. I went in later that day and bleached everything, even though there had been no accidents.
So this is the second time my oldest has had this virus, it hit us January 2012 as well when family came over....they were just getting over it but were still contagious (I didn't even know they had had it), and my youngest caught it...then my oldest.
What I don't understand is how I'M catching it every time. I have caught it both times now. Thankfully, I didn't v.....probably because once one of them comes down with it I pretty much stop eating for a good week. I did get the fever and body aches and exhaustion both times though. My husband also caught it both times, and did v.....but v'ing doesn't freak him out in the least.
I washed my hands CONSTANTLY, I wasn't even in contact with my oldest daughter this time around until 24 hrs after she had stopped v'ing (she didn't have d* either time). I didn't eat with my hands (meaning no toast, sandwiches, etc), I always used a spoon or fork. I was nowhere near her when she was v'ing. My husband caught it, and he stayed in the basement for 2 days after he had it, wasn't in contact with me or my girls - yet my youngest daughter and I STILL caught it....and it seems we caught it from him because my youngest came down wtih it 2 days after he did, and I 3 days after. Thankfully my youngest only v'd once, and again, my husband dealt with it.
Any ideas on how I'm catching it???? We have a big house, and our basement is like a mini apartment - living area, bed, full bathroom, access to outside....so when my husband or I are sick we just hang out down there. The bedrooms are all up on the second story, and like I said, I didn't let my youngest into my oldest daughters bedroom at all and she never used the same bathroom my oldest was using (we have 2 upstairs, but my youngest used the one on the main level, that no sick person had ever entered!).
I have NO CLUE how or why I keep catching this. It's soooo extremely stressful for me. I only catch it when one of my kids has it. I haven't actually been sick like that since I was 11, and I'm 32 now. Any ideas???? I clean with bleach only when someone is sick, the sick person is always on a different level, I keep them using a different bathroom for 2 weeks after they stop v'ing, we sing the ABC song while they wash their hands each time........I don't know what else I can do.
