Unhappy How do you drink when you're not thirsty?

A few weeks ago, I was suffering from dehydration, but I've slowly hydrated since then. Problem now is, I'm not drinking and I feel like I'm going to end up the same way as last time: chills, face twitches, confusion.

When I'm not thirsty, drinking nauseates me. I'm never thirsty.

I've been drinking gatorade since my last tickle with dehydration but with these 64 ounce bottles, I'm only drinking like 16 ounces a day.

My headaches and nausea returned with slight gastric discomfort as well. My Gastro doctor increased my Phenergan dose from 12.5 to 25 to deal more directly with my nausea thankfully.

Another thing I keep dealing with. I keep playing with the back of my throat; like I have a lump in the back of my throat. It's very annoying and sometimes feels smothering. My left ear is always pained to. I can't check online, cause I'll keep reading things like meningitis and tumors.

16 oz of Gatorade is plenty. But u should really be drinking water. That is always best. I never feel thirsty either. I dont know why. (im gonna google it probably after i type this, lol.) Unless my throat gets dry, from running or something, it always seems moist ebough to make me believe Im not thirsty. But ust because we dont feel thirsty doesn't mean we dont need water. You can survive without it.

By the time your lips and mouth are dry, you are already dehydrated! Human beings just need to drink no matter what. If it will make water more appetizing to you, get Mio, or Dasani flavoring. You squirt a few drops in your water and it gives it a slight hint of fruit flavor. Using those is how a friend of mine started drinking water.

I don't know why our bodies like to play games with us. Dehydrated but not thirsty? Our bodies can be so stupid... I'm starting to hate our anatomy now too

You are not supposed to feel thirsty because by that time your body is already dehydrated. Try taking small sips of water a few times an hour. Go from there. You don't have to chug a ton just a little will be fine to start with

Okay I'll give that a try!

Only problem is I'm always nauseated. How much do you think I should drink an hour?

This. Maybe pour yourself a glass of water and then time yourself... every 15 minutes or so have 2 or 3 sips of it until you have finished the glass. Or you could try eating ice lollies as they are mainly water. They will hydrate you without you having to swallow too much fluid. Obviously I would not rely on just eating ice pops, you will need to have to sips of water too, but as an alternative they are good.

Sometimes when you don't drink a lot of water you don't feel thirsty, even though you need it. This happens to me a lot. Once I get a glass or so of water in me my thirst picks up. It helps with you nausea too I've found. If you eat or drink something sweet that helpsmake you thirsty, salty stuff does too. Do you still have your tonsils? Sometimes they get a thing on them like a bump.

I thought water was supposed to help when you feel nauseous. Perhaps it's all mental. If you've convinced yourself that drinking will make you nauseous, then you might feel sick after doing it.

I don't know if 16 oz of water a day is enough. It's definitely not enough for me, as earlier this week I was working outside all day, and it was humid in addition to being almost 90 degrees. I drank four bottles of water and a bottle of Coke over the coarse of several hours, and I was still thirsty. I require lots of fluids, so if I hadn't been drinking, I would have gotten dehydrated really quickly.

Yes, if you think about it, it's really not that hard to. A standard water bottle is 16.9 oz. I drink 4 or 5 of those per day. Not forcefully, not because i'm excessively thirsty, I just do.

so that's 67.6-84.5 oz a day. the amount you should be drinking a day is what Cynna posted. Which in total would be 48 oz a day.

I can safely bet that your lack of fluid contributes to your stomach aches simply because your intestines need fluid to move things along.

I wouldn't consider it a special skill. I mean, I think okay, I drink a bottle of water with every meal (there's 3 right there) , I usually bring one to work or to do errands (there's 4) and then if i'm around the house I'm drinking a water bottle. (5)

So, I can't exactly tell you "why" but only you are stopping you from drinking a healthy amount of water.

try to find a drink that you like the taste of and start there. it is easier to drink if you like the taste. i am almost never thirsty, but i drink anyway. i find it helps a lot if i enjoy the taste. water used to nauseate me because i didn't like it, but i have acquired the taste for it now. drinking lemonade or gatorade helped when i needed some taste to my drinks.
