Default My daughter hoarked all over me and now I'm freaking out.

I'm feeling very anxious right now, and infuriated at myself. My daughter is sick, I don't know if it's Nasty Noro or something else. She's got a low grade temp, was crying and agitated saying her throat hurt, and then...did it, and there was lots of it. I should be patting myself on the head for holding the bucket and wearing some of it, but I'm biting my fist worrying that I'm going to get it, my husband or my son will get it. She's only did it the one time, she's kept down the equivalent of maybe a half a cup of water now but still looks uncomfortable, says her throat is fine now. Even laughed about 10 minutes after doing it and said "man! that was a lotta frow up!"

Here's a dumb thing- if it were strep, which I don't know if it is...sore throat, low grade temp and emesis, I'd feel a lot less anxious than if it were Noro. There's been nothing out the other end, so that's good. Isn't Noro mostly shed in poo and not hoark? She coughed some beforehand, I wondered if she was just gaggy from Tylenol and a sore throat.

I'm just nervous, I don't want to be irrational and start disinfecting everything- my heart is beating like 100+ per minute and I'm all shaky and can't focus. I'm trying to NOT avoid going in her room and being with her. I know that won't prevent her from doing it. Any advice on how to deal with this?

Noro can be spread in vomit as well as faeces. If you didn't get anything on your mouth or face, you should be absolutely fine. Who knows why she vomited, kids (I'm assuming she's pretty young?) can throw up for the smallest of reasons, so it could be noro, but it could also be a wide range of other things, too!

I'm sorry she's not well, but you're doing so well being there for her, and you should feel so proud of yourself. It sounds really scary, and I don't blame you for being a bit worried but I think that you'll be just fine

you're doing amazing, wow. my son v with strep once before so that could be it, ESP if she was laughing ten min afterwards!! get her to a dr for a throat culture bc strep needs antibiotics ASAP.

It's not strep- she only urked the one time. About 45 minutes later she was asking for, and tolerating juice and water and we haven't had any issues since. No diarrhea either. Her throat looks fine, temp is borderline. I would assume it's not Noro since she only urked the one time and there was nothing out the other end. The last time she had an actual GI bug she had it both ends, several times. She's three, and I guess she could have just been gaggy from the essential oil I rubbed on her. She was coughing lightly yesterday and this morning. Still saying her mouth and throat hurt. I feel goofy over analyzing why she vomited. If it was a GI virus, how long would it take before any of us got sick? I understand 12-48 hours is standard with 24 hours being the average.

ah no strep then. well she is three and kids have weak gag reflexes. I guess it could be from coughing or oil or mucus. you would prob be sick in a day or two, max. but since she's been sick in front of you the entire time, you were exposed well over 48 hrs ago.

It would be about 29-30 hours ago now that she vomited on me... they're only contagious once they start vomiting right? No diarrhea yet- it's shed more in the stool than the vomit right?

Stool from what I have heard. My son has v in front of me (and in a towel in my lap) a few times over the years. Its gross. I really think you are ok. Has she v anymore? I really don't think she has a sv. Honestly. If she did, it would have been hours of it...not just once or twice. And she would not have been hungry or able to keep anything down. Liquid even. The lack of d also makes me think it is just mucus or the cold hitting her hard. These are not things that would affect adults really. esp emets who can control it more. Not to say that you should be shoving unwashed hands in your mouth, but I think you are pretty much ok. I would just do a top to bottom lysol/clorox clean tomorrow night (after the 48 hr window) just to keep your sanity. From one mom to another, I really think you are ok. I usually start to relax myself after 24 hours or so. By 36, I am a 4 on a scale of 10. By 48 I am good.

Yeah it was just the one time- and I wasn't sure if it was the essential oils overwhelming her- she was coughing a tad prior to it and smacking her lips. She had already said her mouth/throat was sore and even though it wasn't red and it wasn't strep I believe she had a sore throat. No diarrhea yet either. I was just trying to explain to my husband why I'm still anxious despite having wore it and holding the bucket and the whole production. He was even offering to take over when it was happening and I told him no. He's wondering why I'm so anxious about him our me or our son getting it and why I'm going nuts trying to figure out why she did, missing the point that she's essentially 100% herself now.

with all those details I'm gonna say that you are going to be fine. one time is not a sv. maybe she ate something funky or coughed funny or had mucus. not a sv. you are fine . I wouldn't sugar coat it if I thought otherwise. go to bed and wake up tomorrow knowing you are all good. happy she is feeling better!! that is most important !!!

My son got sick when he was 3. Right before he v he said his throat hurt....I think that's all he could say to describe the feeling in his throat before v. I don't think you have anything to worry about. Her or yourself. I think you would have caught it by now or at least your son.

My kids have said that before they've gotten sick in the past as well. Seriously though, it was a weird event for sure, but if she drank so soon after being sick and it didn't come back up I REALLY don't think it was Noro. At least in my experience if you drink or eat so soon after being sick it's going to come back up. Sounds like it was the medicine. Glad she's ok and am really sure you're going to be ok too!

She might have had some drainage that made her feel sick to her stomach, which would also explain the sore throat. I think if it was noro that she would've v more and not felt as well right after. I really think you're in the clear on this one. Glad she handled it so well also!

Yeah- if she didn't have the fever and wasn't acting so lethargic I would have right away thought she was developing reflux like her brother who essentially said it felt like hot lava in his chest and throat prior to ralphing. I have reflux too with a history of H Pylori but naturally an adult has a better gag control than a 3 year old. She said her throat and mouth hurt some more later that day and the next- an oddly enough incidentally she was on my lap today playing and her throat actually looks a little rosy now. Oh well, I'm done playing nurse now, I get to do that for real this weekend!

I think that when children say that their throat hurts before they vomit, it's usually just bad nauseous sensation but they just don't know how to describe it. That's my theory.. That being said, you'll probably be fine. Kids get sick for no reason sometimes and if, in less than an hour she was drinking something acidic like juice, spot was probably that she had mucous or something.

I don't know if this has been said already, but when I was younger I used to get sick from swallowing too much phlegm. It could just be her sinuses draining into her stomach which can cause the sore throat and the throwing up. I wouldn't worry if she's only done it once! Doesn't sound like noro to me!
