OT - Is anyone a nurse/doctor??

Hi, I know this probably sounds extremely weird but are any of you doctors or nurses, I just want some advice because I have this fear of having a heart attack.. I know its really silly but im too scared to go to a doctor and get it checked out because its embarrassing, im terrified of doctors, I dont feel comfortable with any of the doctors there and im not sure I just cant! Its so scary! So If any of you have any experience in the medical side can you please speak to me for some advice!? The fear is slowly creeping up more and more and really don't want to tell anyone even though I know it would help if I saw someone about it... Helpppp!?

Soph, I am not in the medical profession, but I am bumping your post as I know how it feels to want to go see a doctor but be scared to. There are some medical professionals here, so maybe some of them will see this. At your age, it's extremely unlikely but if you have worrisome symptoms (loss of consciousness, shortness of breath, etc) or you just feel something isn't right you should get it checked. Otherwise, it's probably anxiety or heartburn or something less serious. Hope all is ok...

not in medical profession, but my sister is in her last weeks of nursing school. Agree with jkl...your chances of a heart attack at your age are extremely slim to none, especially if you have not had any heart problems in the past. A doctor's test of stethoscope, EKG and really an echo is the only was to tell for certain if there's any problems with the heart. What is it about doctors that scare you, if I may ask...

Yeah, I really want to go and have it checked out but I just cant pull myself together to do it, Im not exactly sure what scares me so much about them, but I know that im not as bad with like blood tests and stuff but I just wont let them do anything to do with the heart and blood pressure etc, it just freaks me out big time that I just run out. It might be a little bit to do with embarrassment? But everything to do with the heart and stuff scares me, I get shivers thinking about it! But I don't like doctors and medical places anyway in case I catch anything or get germs.. that really scares me as well.. Im just not sure..

Don't be scared. I've done some studying in the medical field and I am also a heart patient myself. I've had countless EKGs, heart monitors, echos, heart carbs, MRIs, MRAs, and even a cardiac implant. I promise that the testing is not scary. Unless you've had any symptoms the most testing they would do for you would be blood pressure test, EKG, and MAYBE a blood test. It's nothing to be scared or embarrassed about. The worst part is when the blood pressure cuff gets tight around your arm but that's over in just a second. Lol. Message me if you have anymore questions.

I'm a medical assistant, and I can tell you that doctors are just like all of us!! Do you have a doctor that you regularly see? Do you like him/her? Are you having symptoms that are making you worry or are you just worried about heart attacks in general? You could research some cardiologists in your area and check their reviews if you really want to see a specialist. The good thing about the heart is that most of the testing is painless. And please, if you do go, be totally HONEST with him/her! They have heard it all, really! Even tell them about your anxiety...they will understand. And if you go and find out you are fine, think how relieved you will feel!!! Let us know what you do...hugs.
