    Default SV Season...in the Spring?

I know noro can happen at any time, but the CDC states that it peaks during the December-February period. However, I'm seeing multiple "stomach bug" posts on Facebook this week. It's really freaking me out because I have to fly in a couple weeks and caught noro last time I went home in winter 2012. It was so traumatic that I haven't flown or traveled anywhere out of state since then.

Not sure what I'm looking for here, but any reassurance/practical advice is welcome. Most of the sick people are babies or parents of small children if that means anything.

I'm not sure where you are from.. But i know here. Rotavirus is going around.. My kids both had it a couple weeks ago ( their father and I didnt catch it). Since, ive heard of much of my friends and people around have been dealing with the same thing with their children.. Normally, adults dont catch rota. Other than that, I've heard of the regular colds and flus.. I am equally on edge and cannot wait for warmer weather. Just make sure to wash your hands before putting anything in your mouth. You will be fine, just because you got sick in 2012 does not mean it will happen again. Relax and enjoy your trip

I've been wondering the same thing. Overall, I had a pretty calm winter season, not running into much illness. But within the last month I've had contact with people who are sick like a million times, it feels like. It's like the sv* season waited or something. I wish it would stop because I'm constantly on edge!

Thanks, Melekeh! I freaked out all winter and basically became a shut-in, knowing that it would all be over by Spring. No such luck.

I'll be traveling to Oklahoma, which is where all the sicky FB posts are coming from :[ Never hear of anyone getting stomach viruses where I live, but it's insane in OK. Some of them get sick twice in a 2-3 month span! My friends here all work with kids yet somehow don't get SV's like the people in my home state. Allergies are also way worse there, but the reason is obvious--more diverse plants.

To top off the sickness parade during my last trip home, somebody V*ed on my flight. I was utterly drained by that point and have suffered severe PTSD ever since. Hopefully this time will be different! I know airports are a hotbed of germs, which is probably where we picked it up last time. Ugh. Anywho, thanks for listening to me ramble

Honestly I think that they 'peak' was delayed a bit because of all of the school closings this year. It never TRULY quiets down until the kids are out of school. When they are in class they are spreading the germs around. Once they are out for a few months it slows down again.

That being said, it has NOTHING to do with you. You don't HAVE to catch anything. Wash your hands when you get off of the plane and before eating. You'll be fine. I'm just so sorry to hear that you've been suffering alone all of this time! I can tell you with 100% certainty that a little tummy bug is NOTHING compared to what you've been through. Cutting yourself from the world and reliving what happened a few years ago sounds horrible. GO! HAVE FUN! There isn't going to be any sickness. (((HUGS)))

Thank you for the hugs, Syrup! It really has sucked being so paranoid and fearful since I got sick. I keep telling myself it only happened once out of all the times I've gone home, but you know how the emet mind works

The weather is so wonky in OK that I think the people there just have worse immune systems (and possibly worse hygiene, lol). The fact that it's all been toddlers and new moms is somewhat comforting.

The sv was around my area in the south of england all over Easter, it came late this year, we had an easy winter, it was more coughs and colds.

Things calmed down here for about a week, and now my FB is blowing up again with, "OMG WE'RE TU* AGAIN?!?!?!?" *sigh*

Yes, it does significantly calm down during the summer because people are outside more and kids aren't stuck in a school building. Keep up your hygiene and you should be fine, outbreak or not. I, personally, have always associated stomach bugs with late winter/early spring, honestly.

And remember: people on Facebook are so dramatic. If we didn't have social media, you'd not even know so many people were getting sick!
