I can't burp anymore

Ok well pretty much when I was 8 I was burping all day then when I came home I burped a puke and I'm very very freaked out by puke of any kind... So I just held in a burp anytime I had one amd I'm not 17 & I still can't physically burp no matter what I hiccup loudly lol but burping is impossible for my muscles... i used to be worried about it but it hasn't done me any harm but I feel weird when I'm around people and I can't burp like them... Is this like normal? I used to have terrible ingestion so bad years ago but it just stopped and now I just can't burp like I could when I was a kid.

Ive heard of some people with this phobia preventing themselves from burping. I don't know if its bad or not, but if you don't have any issues resulting from it I don't see the bother?

I'd be very surprised if anyone thought you were weird for not burping. If you had issue with uncontrollable burps, maybe but not burping is no big deal, don't worry.

I burp maybe once a year. Pretty sure it's because I'm subconsciously suppressing the reflex due to emetophobia - Google 'emetophobia can't burp' and you'll see *tons* of people with both issues, too many for it to be a coincidence I reckon!

I get really audible gurgling noises in my throat after I've eaten sometimes which can last for ages and which I think might be gas trying to make its way up without a burp reflex, and people do notice that sometimes! I make a joke out of it, mostly. Either I say it's because I'm so ladylike it's impossible for me to burp, or if I'm in less polite company I remind them that the gas has to come out the other end at some point so they'd better watch out. I am a bad person.

Burping ALWAYS makes me feel better. . . one of the signs I'm nearing the end of an attack is I start burping. Hmm. It releases a lot of the pressure I mistake for n*. I can't force myself to burp without it making me feel ill though.

I never burp properly just stupid wee 'innie' hiccupy burps that don't help at all. I wouldn't worry about it but I do think sometimes I'm uncomfortable/ feel worse for longer because I don't burp. Defi an emet thing due to years of suppressing it cos I once burped and tasted food when I was a kid and it freaked me the hell out!

I am the same way! When I was 8 years old I burped a lot before v*ing from illness. Then about 8-9 months later, I randomly burped at a school event and I got so freaked out. My mother and my teacher kept asking if I was okay- apparently I turned white as a ghost and looked like I was going to pass out.

Now I usually just kind of hiccup in my throat and swallow it. Burping grosses me out anyway- especially when you can smell whatever the burper ate last.

Yes! I just cannot burp! So many people have tried to teach me, but I just simply cannot burp! Not sure if it's for the same reasons as you, maybe subconsciously, I am holding them back. But I just can't burp! And Felle, I am exactly like you! I just make weird croaking noises in my throat. Glad I'm not the only one here

I make croaking noises if I have been drinking. One time it happened when I was kissing someone for the first time. Talk about embarrassing.

I've never been able to burp! I physically can't get myself to do it, I guess the thought of bringing something up out of my mouth is too similar to *v that I can't do it. I can't drink anything fizzy anymore because of it, and I have to eat slowly otherwise I'm doomed with trapped gas - which then starts the cycle of anxiety. Oh aren't we just a special bunch? Haha!

I sometimes mistake the urge to burp, or "trapped bubbles" as I call them, for N and I've even panicked from it. Once, I had to exit a subway at the wrong stop and go outside, panicked a bit, then burped a few times and felt fine. I definitely understand the similarity to V and not wanting to do it, but I burp so much, I guess I'm desensitized!
