Question Propranolol - Beta Blockers: advice please.

Hey, so I recently decided to stop Mirtazapine as I felt it was only making my panic attacks and anxiety episodes worse.

My doctor decided more drugs were necessary *sigh*, so I've been prescribed Propranolol - a beta blocker. Only 10mg, but still another drug to send my mind wild with worry.

Has anyone else used this or is currently using this? I took my first one this morning after about an hour of staring at the damn pill (LOL). I got a bad headache and have had it all day. I did notice that my heart beat was almost non-existence, but apart from that I didn't feel MUCH of a change. However I managed to eat without much of a problem which is always lovely.

Wanted to know what your experience with it is! Thanks guys, hope you're having a good weekend

How odd, I just posted about Beta Blockers as well! When I was pregnant I was prescribed Labetalol and, aside from a tingly scalp that eventually subsided, I had no side effects at all. I was prescribed it for high BP during pregnancy and I know that BP medication can cause headaches, so that may be where your headache is coming from.

By the way, I'm the exact way you are with medication haha! I was prescribed Klonopin for panic attacks and the bottle sits unused while I've had about six panic attacks since I got it haha. Just can't bring myself to use it.

Oh really?! I never saw it! :P
I hope the headaches subside as they're really horrid and make me have mild n*

Haha, aren't we just the funniest of people? I do it with every new medication. I have to build myself up for it!

Im on propranolol too, its really helped me. Even though it doesn’t help with the obsessive thoughts etc for me it slows down my heart rate enough that I hardly ever have an anxiety/panic attack. Ive been on it for about a year now and I’ve never had any bad effects even though I was terrified to take them at first. The headache may have been a coincidence! Another good thing is that you can take them as needed so you can miss doses/ only take it on certain days with no bad consequences. Just always remember to take it before eating and not with alcohol. J

I was meaning to ask that question too; I'm not the most avid tablet taker and couldn't quite understand why you have to take it before meals? In my head taking the tablet on an empty stomach would be a disaster! Can anyone quickly explain why you have to take them before meals?

I think it’s so it can be absorbed along with the food? But I may be wrong!

Hi all, I am new to this website and I also have some questions on Propranolol but did not want to make a new thread on it due to the fact any answers I might receive to my questions will help Cathy too

I am a 22 year old male who has suffered mild emetophobia for as long as I can remember. It did not impact my life much except for drinking alcohol, going clubbing, living out at university etc. I just had a real phobia of seeing other being s* although I did not know if I would be afraid to v* myself as I havent *v since I was very very young. In early 2013 I was not letting it effect my life at all, to the point I was able to get drunk and have fun with my friends. I felt like for the first time that I fitted in with my generation. Then came one night where my friends wanted to do weed, and having let them down for years with not going clubbing, getting drunk and so on, I decided to just do it as things were going so well for me. Two hours into the session, I had a huge panic attack from severe paranoia that I was going to be s*. This went away after an hour and thought it was a one off. 13 months later here I am and I now suffer frequent panic attacks on a weekly basis, triggered from one night of smoking marijuana. I suffer from anxiety so much to the point that I have accepted that I will have it all my life. 13 months ago I didnt even know what anxiety was. My anxiety and panic attacks get so bad to the point I have tried to end my life twice. Anyway I am not looking for sympathy as I am sure everyone on here is on the same boat as me.

Pills : Diazepam - Works wonders during a panic attack however they are hard to get a hold of due to them being very addictive. I understand that they should only be used short term however as of now they are the only thing that is guaranteed to help me during a panic attack
Citalopram - I was given these to take a few months ago. I was given the 10mg dose and only lasted four days as the side effects of nausea were too extreme for me to handle, therefore I don't know how good they would have been
Propranolol - I have just been prescribed these today in a 40mg dose to be taken twice a day. I have read the leaflet inside and one of the side effects is n* and v*. I am terrified to take one because I have no idea how e
