Hello, i am so very sorry your son is sick right now. I know it can be a very hard thing to experience, but knowing that you are there for him is such a strong reaction and just try to keep him hydrated and we'll rested. Thays all ypu can do for now. I know it may sound bad, but when my 2 sons got sick I had gloves and a mask, but was able to try my best to help them in any way possible. Disenfect everythung to keep everything clean and sanitized if you can. But other than that, just try to keep calm and collective, I know it's easier said than done, when I'm in that position Its very hard, but afterwards you look at it and wish you would of stayed calm and be there 100% for your kids. Take care and hope your son gets well soon.

Yea I'm being totally calm around him because I don't ever want him to think it's not ok to be sick but it's in my mind I'm just freaking out I think it's worse because I'm here alone with him today and ive no body to tell that I'm so terrified right now and trying to hide it from my child .. I wore gloves aswel when I was cleaning up the v* lol then washed my hands with raw bleach! He's lying beside me here talking away but looking rough I just no it's a bug and I want to cry right now I'm not afraid of him being s* it's the dread of Monday morning going to work and having panic attacks for the full working week incase I come down with it in there I can't believe this is happening in June !!!!

Oh I'm aware it can still happen in summer but it's really not very common especially when your child isn't in nursery school or anything yet..

Wow, you are very strong that you are not showing your son that you are actually so scared, I feel so awful that I showed my son that I was really scared and honestly I feel like I was a failure. But you are honestly doing it the right way, so you should literally be proud of yourself for that. I know at this time everything is racing through your mind about you getting sick as well, but I have to say again, that you should be proud yourself for even going to work! I cannot even go to work just yet because of my anxieties and that I have so much fear that I make myself so sick, But if you have not yet touched your mouth, nose or eyes, you should be alright! I know the thought will always be there, but just all you can do is just wait it out, and see if you get sick.. Most likely not, But I know it can be terrifying. Does your son go to school or anything yet? I really hope he feels much better. I know the stomach bug is going around and during the summer time its the worst because its hot and you may feel more awful. Im here for you.

Poor baby! So sorry to hear this! Rotavirus is rampant right now. We had it a few weeks ago, as did a bunch of our friends. One of their children was hospitalized for it and it was confirmed to be Rota. Anyway, all of that to say, the doctor at the hospital said that he'd seen a ton of kiddos with it and that it was 'that time of year'. He went on to say that it usually went around from early spring - the end of June. He told the parents that he had ONLY seen kids, no parents. It really isn't common for adults to catch and if they do, it's usually just a bit of random d*. Given that your kiddo started with d* I bet that's what's going on.

As for Monday, that's far away from now. You're going to be absolutely FINE.

please don't feel awful were all at different stages with our phobia. I go to work but I have daily panic attacks while I'm there and I'm seriously considering not going this week because I know I'm going to be freaking out badly. Unfortunatly I think I touched my face an awful lot through the whole of last nights experience plus he slept with me last night too he had one more dose of the runs this morning but is now eating again and drinking a lot thank god he's finished now it's just the waiting game

I knew I was going overboard when my 13 year old stepson told me to chill out with the bleach it's not like anyone in the house has Ebola lol

That's actually made me feel a lot better thank you it never even crossed my mind it could be roto because I think he might of had that last summer and I didn't think they could get it twice .. I also wasn't aware it's more likely in spring god I hope that's what it was lol my mine is in overdrive I'm pretty sure I bleached everything I should of bleached now it's just a matter of changing beds etc

Oh yes, kids catch Rotavirus over and over, especially before age 5. My kids both caught it from a friend. My youngest had d* for a few days (not bad) and vomited the 2nd day. My oldest ONLY had stomach cramps and d* for a few days (very mild, he still ate and acted fine). They've both had Rota multiple times, their 1st case, years ago was the worse. My husband and I avoided it entirely. Given the time of year, the d* involvement and the age of your kiddo I bet that's what's going on. Try to relax (I know how hard it is!!!!).

i was explaining to my family I think it might be rotovirus they looked at me like I was crazy saying roto what!! I'm like never mind you's wouldn't understand lol it's impossible for people to understand this phobia and that's why I just can't take myself away from this site even thou sometimes other peoples panic posts make me feel worse im guilty of doing it myself!

is his poop extra stinky? Rota lasts a long time..like 4-7 days somejnes. when my son had it the doctor said to give him a shot glass of Pedialyte every 15 minutes (so 2 ounces). If he could keep four shot glasses down in an hour I could introduce a handful of Cheerios or a quarter of a piece of bread. Maybe try doing it very slowly.

Hello there, I am terribly sorry that your son is still sick, I hope he feels much better, If its okay I would like to share my sons and family first experience with the Stomach bug, It first started with my Mother (which is the very first time I saw her get sick like this throughout my whole entire life), she started it, and then my son got it because we didnt think it was a virus, but anyways, my son started with the V* throughout the whole entire DAY! He couldnt keep nothing down, no water, no medicine, no 7up, nothing! So finally me and my husband took him to the ER that night and they gave him some dissolving tablets to stop V* and he did. He felt a lot better, then the next day started with the D* for about 4 to 5 days.. All in all it lasted a whole week for him to get better and be himself again, It was so rough to see him go through that because that is one thing I want to protect my both boys from is the Stomach bug.. So what I am trying to say is, maybe if you can take your son to the ER maybe they can give him some medicine for him to stop his V* and D*... Also because you dont want to see your son get dehydrated or anything. Maybe it can be also something he ate? Because usually its that case when they start off with D*.. But I really hope your son gets well soon, I will be keeping your son in my prayers.

And thank you for the support about the different stages in our phobia, I just wish I was stronger than I sound and look. Hey, Bleach is fine, lol I use Lysol, which is not that strong, but yet it makes the house smell good lol. I understand about your working, and plus someone would need to watch over your son right? Just say you have to take care of your son so you can request some days off, I know it is the hardest, but at least you stick with your job and not give up.
I am sorry to hear about your panic attacks daily at your job, but the good thing is, you stick with it and get through it, that is one strength you should be proud of.

Aw that's do nice with the prayer bit thank u

im going to take time off because I don't like leaving him with a childminder when he's not well and il be 100% having unbearable anxiety attacks when I'm there I know I will. Usually when ive been exposed to any kind of virus I can barely leave my house anyway it's terrible but Unfortunatly most of us are in the same boat I suppose

I had phoned the care doctor last night and they said its just a bug we won't give him anything to stop the v* as its best to run its course but if he gets bad tonight I will be phoning them back as he's really not doing good at all they even told me not to be giving him 7up as it makes u worse! Id never heard that before I always got flat 7 up when I was ill as a child

god that sounds awful what your family had ive never known a bug to last like that when I get one it's usually 24 hour then Gone completly I usually get one a year to be honest but touch wood nothing so far this year for myself but I knew it would catch up on us somehow, it's awful when the kids get it thou isn't it they go through an awful time

That is good that you called, but sad that they cant give him anything.. I didn't know 7up makes it worse! that is very good to know. And I know it is just so terrible to see your kids go through such a hard time and not feeling well, any type of lu or sickness you just want to take it away from them, but not to get it but just to go away! lol
Especially when its little ones its very hard, because they cannot control their bowel movements or anything else..
Of course, prayer has been helping me through everything lately, and sometimes I feel like giving up on prayer, but I know I will just get worse and feel awful without prayer and God. I hope for the best, and I hope within a few days your son will be much better.. and Hope you wont get it.

I don't think 7up makes them worse and I use it because ive been brought up with that being the cure and it didn't make me worse lol so il continue to use it Especially when he won't take much else

im a bit like that myself to be honest being brought up Catholic and thought in an all girl Catholic school im definatly one for prayer every night even thou sometimes I question myself bothering!

Its its the waiting game now a week of misery waiting for it and it will pass

He's been s* another 4 times since I last posted and now fast asleep he's had a dry nappy for the last 4 hours and has only taken a few sips of water
do you no if being really cold to touch has anything to do with rotavirus?
The doctors here said they defo not giving me anti sickness or anti diarriah stuff for him, I'm all for it running its course but it's getting ridiculous now he's starting to scream when v* because he's done it so much he's being traumatised

if he hasn't peed in 4 hrs and is still v he needs to be seen by a dr ASAP. he is dehydrated. please take him to urgent care or the ER. I implore you, as a mother myself. he is dehydrated. he needs fluids in an IV at the very least.

Ugh I'm so sorry your son is so sick! From the sounds of it, it sounds like rotavirus and not noro. Noro wouldn't stopped by now most likely. We had rota run through our house back at the end of April. Both my kids had it and it lasted for a week for each of them. I hope he's better soon!!

I phoned the hospital again last night and told them he's not drinking plus dry nappy and still they claimed he didn't need to be seen and I was to smash ice cubes and put little cubes in his mouth so for the rest of the night id been doing that and sticking a bottle in his mouth every so often he still didn't get much into him but he had no more v* or d* last night it's now 8:45 in the morning and he's ate half a bowl of cereal and is playing with toys..
He had a tiny bit of d* In his nappy just now but I think it's over and I'm really really mad at the hospital and wondering now if maybe it was the 24 hour bug

    Hi there,

Sending lots of support to you and your little boy. I hope he is feeling better ASAP.

I just wanted to touch on a few things I have read though your replies, one of them was alarming and that was the part where you said that you washed your hands with just bleach.

Please don't do this to yourself, I as an Emet too, have had urges like this. But the reason you should not kill your skin like this is because the skin develops a natural good bacteria, when washed with good soaps. This bacteria stops viruses and bacteria from multiplying as quickly on your skin.

For example, a bleach ruined hand with dead skin is the perfect breeding ground and makes it much harder to was the viruses down the drain. I like to sing the ABC in my head washing my hands thoroughly, that ensures everything will be washed off.

Now it seems that it is ROTA, I remember the first time got the V bad, I didn't have D, just V and I will never forget the feeling of no control, it was what lead me to getting Emet. I also remember feeling extremely hungry, and screaming from V trauma.

Now just some things to make you feel better.

It is extremely unlikely for Emets to catch V&D virus' as we are so clean. And if we do catch them we have incredible will power to not actually V.

Do you use prebiotic capsules? These are great, if you do catch a virus, with a healthy tummy the symptoms will not be as bad.

I have an amazing amount of respect for mothers with emetophobia.

    Keep going.

    Sending thoughts your way
    Riv

Thanks for all your replys he's still pretty bad he's been s* again this morning and my local doctor is finally agreeing to see him as he's at risk of dehydration duh!

your right about the bleach RIV I stopped doing that after the first day because I knew this is just crazy what am I doing to myself and since last night ive actually been less weird about the hygiene ive truely stopped caring about me now I mean obviously I dont want to catch but I just want him better it's heartbreaking to see him so ill

i feel like I'm doing it alone because his dad was away the weekend it was all going on and works all day today and yesterday so ive been cleaning up v* and tending to him all by myself even when his dad is here he won't get s* with anyone except me. I must look pretty confident about it all to him but I'm 100% not, I just must be hiding it very well!

The nurse on the phone said there's loads of bugs going around and it's going through full house holds but adults are more prone to getting d* with it so I said right so it's rotavirus and she said no it's just a bug! Maybe she just doesn't no what rota is!

Is is anyone aware of vile smelling farts with kids and rota? I wouldn't of mentioned this if it wasn't extremely violent smelling

I am so sorry to hear that your son is still so ill. I really do hope that he gets better.

Remember that adults will rarely V unless they are known to be V-ous people. If we get a stomach upset we will usually just D, particularly rotavirus, we would just be feeling a bit meh and maybe a couple of d's.

Rotavirus is known to sometimes have a very distinctive smelling poo, both in humans and animals (my dad is a vet) and sometimes it can be discoloured green or yellow, sort of acidic (?). However, a child with rotavirus may not show poo differences. Rotavirus can also be quite severe on first contact for children.

I find it absurd that the doctors will not attend to your child. In Australia we are blessed with health care.

I am a male, and we don't have that motherly instinct that you have. Also, I am 24 now and I would find it hard to V in front of my dad, however, when i did get VD in 2011 (after 15 years of V free) i phoned mum and she guided me through how to do it! HAHA.

I really hope your partner is supportive about EMET - as you must talk about it.

I think it is remarkable how you are handling this situation now. We need to be aware that we identify ourselves as Emetophobes, we must not let this happen, and what you are doing now is identifying yourself as a mother, a nurturer and you are doing such a fantastic job for your son, we are all strong for finding ways to deal with this sh!!thouse condition, but we are people. This in a way is a magnificent leap and I really suggest seeing a psychologist to continue to talk about this, especially how in this moment you are getting ground on emet. When we identify ourselves we can become obsessed with the anxiety and fear, so keep telling yourself that what you are doing is great for YOU and your son.

Also, children can get severe sicknesses from bacterial infections too (the nurse could mean this with the term bug) where as Rota is a virus, a mutation that fecks with our cells and continues to mutate inside us and outside of us for some time.

Still thinking of you all. The poor guys kidneys would be in hysterics, keep me updated.

    Riv

Yea the doctor seen him and said he's not dehydrated so there's not much they can do, so they sent me home with dyoralite and some paracetamol for him! He's been s* loads more today and had more d* . The doc said it's not rotavirus when I asked him and said its just a bad bug and according to him our whole house will more than likely get it! He done no tests to see if it was rota or not so I'm standing by yes it is rota lol 4 days is far too long for it to be a normal bad bug

yea my partner knows all about my phobia but in a weird way I want it to be me caring for him I don't want anyone else to have to step in and take over even thou I'm terrified

anyway il just have to get on with it and hope it passes for him soon thank you to everyone for all your replies your the only ones that made me feel better about this nightmare lol and RIV your messages are really supportive thank you so much
