    Default Treatment?

Is there anyone here who has "recovered" from Emetophobia with medication? I am just sick and tired of letting this phobia take my life. I have suffered for way too long to deal with it anymore. I am just curious if medication has worked for anyone and what they are taking. I have an appointment with my PCP on Thursday to HOPEFULLY figure out what can be done....

I totally understand. I have had success with reading several self help books. Thrive, attacking anxiety and depression , AND Claire Weekes.I have xanax to take in emergency only (bad panic attack) which has been fewer apart lately. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Go to eBay and you should be able to find the attacking anxiety and depression cd s, its an older program but very very good. While you're waiting on that, look up Lucinda Bassett and also Claire Weekes on you tube just n listening to them help me tremendously. I think I found the Thrive book on amazon. But my favorite is the attacking anxiety program. Hope this helps.

there are no 'magic pills' you can take to magically make any anxiety condition go away as far as i know. You can take things to help reduce it but it will only act as a mask. Its better to look into treatment with a therapist

I really don't recommend medication (especially if you're younger). While many people do have success with it, many doctors underemphasize the commitment you're really making. It is not easy to get off of most medications. If you really want to get better, you should see a therapist and really commit to overcoming your phobia. It will NOT be easy and you will not have any success unless you're willing to be uncomfortable at times, but if you follow through, you will eventually have real results.

With medication, it alone isn't enough. Usually a mix of meds and therapy are what help people. Don't get on meds without going into therapy as you do them. Sometimes anxiety and depression are a result of really low serotonin, so taking an SSRI can improve that a little and make therapy easier. Once you have the tools and can get by, getting off the medication is what most people do. But again, there's not easy magic fix for anxiety. It takes work, but can be done.

Well I think I need medication ANYWAY because I suffer with bipolar disorder. I started taking Lexapro yesterday, a very small dose, 5mg.

I don't have the money for regular therapy right now, unfortunately. :\ Our stupid insurance SUCKS and they won't cover much until we pay our full deductible, which is around 1500.

There are lost cost and even free therapies available in most locations in the US if you are in the US. If you have an official diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder, then that's a separate issue. Medication for that is not the same as medication for anxiety, though Lexapro seems like an interesting choice for that outside of treating depression. However, Medication alone won't fix anxiety or the phobia.

Take a look at what therapies may be available to you. You may be surprised at what's out there.
