I was lying in bed the other night thinking about my phobia and this website and I have a question for everyone. How long had you been afraid of *v* before you found out it was an actual phobia? And, how did you find out that it was a phobia?

I have had the fear since I was about 9 and found out only last year that it was a true phobia. I was reading a magazine and it listed the top 5 phobias and "emetophobia" was one of them. Then I decided to do some internet research and discovered this site. Like everyone else, until then, I truly thought I was the only person in the world with this fear.

I've had the phobia since I was 4, but it didnt get really bad until I was 8... I found out when I was 15 years old, last year. I found out because when I was 14 I had to do this phobia project where we had to write about someone that had a phobia and how it affected them. Well I looked up phobias and I never saw such a long list. I didnt quite find out about it then but the following year, my friend was writing a fiction story where she mentioned a fear of Friday the thirteenth. I decided to look at that long list I saw a year before to see if there was a fear of v* and I researched it.

I have had it my entire life and I found out last July, just a little over a year ago. So I had suffered for probably16 1/2 years before I found out.

Hey Jess how are you doing? Hope things are going a little better for you and your husband. I have had this for 31 years and in October I turn 40 and have come to grips that I will have this until I am in the ground. I had no idea that this was a phobia, at least the people who are realizing they have a phobia and are young have a better chance of nipping this in the butt now.

I started showing signs of emetophobia when i was...erm...well, almost as far back as I can remember! Three or four, i think. It got really bad when I was about eight, and I think that I knew that it was a phobia, but it didn't occur to me to actually research it until about a year ago. Then I found out its actual name, and that it was a real, classified phobia.

Um.. well i think i realized i had the fear when i was 11... and then
realized it was an actual phobia when i saw "what is emetophobia?" was
a question on some trivia thing on tv (probably I was about 14-15). i
actually decided to look it up when I was 16, and found this site and
info about it then.

I started fearing sickness around age nine. Then about five years later I got a horrible stomach virus in July. I was 3000 miles away from my father whom I associated with as my "savior" - basically someone whose the only one that can reassure me and put me at ease. He was out of my reach. After recovering the virus I was still convinced I was going to vomit. Dad took it in his own hands and decided to try and figure out why I had such an emotional fear with vomiting. He came across IES.

I have no idea exactly what age and when I started to fear "it"... I know I did in 7th grade and probably earlier... I didn't know it actually was a true phobia and had the big "emetophobia" name until quite a few months ago... I think my emet just grew over time, since I virtually never got THAT ill in my lifetime I never experienced "getting sick..." And I just found it to be SO disgustingI started fearing it I guess. So there it is. And here I am.

Oh about 18 years. I didn't know this phobia had a name or that I
wasn't the only person in the world who had it until I found this site
about a month ago.

Oh I have had it forever! I remember watching R&J once when I was 11 and them talking about it so I knew I wasn't the only one. Then I read something about this woman in a magazine who wouldn't eat through the phobia, her story sounds so much like a lot of people here. Anyway as soon as I got net access I was researching it and here I am!

I've had this fear ever since I can remember. A few months ago in March I was at the local community college in the library and I was reading up on phobia's. The book would list a phobia and then have a story about the phobia from someone who wrote in. I found a story aboutV*ing and under it there was the word Emetophobia: Fear of V*ing. After I found out the word for it I went online and typed it in and found this place. For YEARS and YEARS I thought that I was the only one in the world with this phobia...I'm so glad I found this place!

I have had it since age 6 (and I'm now 37). I just thought it was some weird hang up and I had no idea so many others suffered. Friends and family have made fun of me for years. The strange thing is, I am not afraid of v***** myself, I am just afraid of others doing it. And I made it through med school without a major breakdown! And I have 2 small kids one of whom is prone to sv!

was earlier) but i didntr fid out it was an actually phobia and other
people had the same thing until the end of may this year. its funny
how most of us have had it forever but didnt think to research it, or
anything, until recently.

I went to reply to this last night and after typing everything out and hitting post reply my computer dropped the site and I couldnt' get back on LOL! Anyhow I'm not sure when I got this phobia. I think to some extent most if not all of my life I've had at least a little bit. But it didn't become a real problem and interfere w/ life until I was about 12 or 13 and started getting what I now know were panic attacks. The first time I heard anyone else had this fear was on Maury Povich show he had a 16 yr old pregnant girl w/ a fear of v*ing and was havinga rough time because she was having mornign sickness. Anywho one day i decided to type in a search for fear of v* and VOILA here I am.

I have had this phobia since I was about 17, but was first diagnosed
with agoraphobia from my doctors. So for many years I just
thought that fearing v*, was part of my panic attacks from my
agoraphobia. About 3 years ago, I disovered what it really was,
and joined this site last year. I'm now 28. Carrie
