Yes, I get these. Funny, I don't get the headache but just the ocular part. It starts out as a small, flashy zigzag in the center of my vision. Then it grows into a arc of zigzag flashes and slowly moves out of my vision. It lasts about half an hour. It is freaky and I used to get nervous about them. I get them maybe once a month, sometimes more, sometimes less. Once when I increased an anti depressant, I was getting them almost every day, so I went back to the lower dose. I'm sure you are ok and it could just be another type of migraine, or stress, etc. Glad your mom was able to talk to you. I laugh now but the first time I got one was when I was in 8th grade in reading class. I couldn't read with it, the words were disappearing. I was terrified that the teacher would call on me to read!! Take care!
