Hiya everyone.

One of my flatmates has the flu and hes spending all his time in the
kitchen coughing and sneezing infecting everyone else. Its pretty
inconsiderate of him, he should be in his room instead of spreading hs
germs. he has the normal flu (well tghats what he says, its probably
just a cold but i want to be sure!) I was wondering if there are any
tips you can give me how to avoid catching it? At the moment i am
afraid to go in the kitchen and cook anything so im starving. I turned
all the extractor fans on earlier and opened the windows but they only
open two inches. Im going to buy some sort of antibacterial spray
tomorrow, can anyone suggest something good thats available in the uk
that kills bacteria and viruses in the air?

Any other advice on how to avoid this wou;d be greatly appreciated too!

Lysol kills the flu virus. Its hard to avoid because its airborne. Maybe your immune system will fight it.

Also...keep those hands washed

Use Lysol to clean, the wipes are good, you could you bleach. Like madisonsmom stated wash your hands. Use hand sanitizers.
Eat properly, drink lots of fluids; if you dont eat properly take vitamins and get plenty of sleep.

flu shot... if you don't get the flu this time, I would get a flu shot to prevent it. BUt otherwise, I agree with everyone else.

You could take Tamiflu or similar.

S'posed to protect you in this case in addition to shortening the duration of the virus.

But honestly, I'd be freaking out too. But only if the flat mate
told me they were V. If they weren't V, then I wouldn't be so
worried. Maybe now's a good time to get away for a few days on holiday.

To me it doesn't really sound like the flu, more like 'man flu' which is a when a man gets a cold but says he's got flu! If was proper flu then he would feel so ill he wouldn't be able to get out of bed!

Along with what others have suggested ill say get plenty of fresh air, take vitamins (i take a multibionta everyday as they help your digestion too)also i think the more you try and avoid colds and coughs they seem to hit you harder when you get one, so don't just stay in your room avoiding everyone. I'm sure i saw an ad here in the uk about some spray that you can use up your nose to stop you getting colds, its called 'First Defence' or something like that..

Take care and i hope you stay healthy

Oscillo worked wonders for me last year in knocking out the flu. You can get it in drug stores, and it's over-the-counter.

The little pill things you take taste like sugar. I started feeling shaky and sick and had a fever and everything, and after taking it, I recovered without getting sick. Someone else I know never got the flu, even when his wife had it, by taking this stuff.

A flu shot is a very good idea - not just for you but for everyone around you.

You know I just remembered, that in the height of my phobia, when I was
the most terrified during college, One of my room mates (flat mate)
locked himself in his room for 2 days and never came out. I was just
coming in from a trip and he said he had a "monster flu". Then of
course I almost fainted and then somehow I managed to ask him if the V*
and he said no, not at all. OH my. What a relief. It's like leaning off
the edge of your bed upside-down and letting all the blood rush to your
head and then bending back up.

I was going away again for another trip the next day or that day I
can't remember so it gave me some more time for some fresh air to
circulate in that apartment.

And yea, I can't stand it when people say they're "sick" when they just
have a cold. Or when they call it the flu or a virus. It really creeps
me out.
