ham_crisp,
First off, I know that you feel you are in a desparate state at the
moment and are having a panic attack. Let me say that you have
already made a good step in coming out the other side of it by logging
on to here and seeking out advice from others who have exactly the same
panic attacks as you.
If your mum has a very contagious stomach bug there are only a few ways
in which you can contract it. You can touch an infected surface
and then touch your mouth or your eyes or your nose. Or you can
be very near here when she is actually being sick and be exposed to the
very fine aerosol mist. It sounds like you have definately not
been exposed by aerosols because your mom gave you good advice and you
took it and did the sensible thing and went to your own room, so you
have almost certainly avoided the second route of exposure. Your
mum would have cleaned up after herself and if she is a great mum,
which she sounds like she is, she would have bleached all the surfaces
which she could have contaminated. Now again you can avoid the
bathroom she was using, but if not there is still no need to panic
becuase the simplest thing you can do to avoid exposure is exactly that
a very very simple thing. Wash your hands with hot soapy water,
not just a quick rinse under the tap, but really lather them up, keep
rubbing them gently with the foam from the soap for as long as it takes
you to sing happy birthday twice to your self. then wash the soap
off really well and dry your hands with a clean towel. repeat
this everytime after you have to use the bathroom your mum used and
most importantly before you eat anything, and I mean anything, a
chocloate bar, a packet of crisps, anything where there is achance you
could have to touch anything that goes into your mouth. By
following these guidelines you will seriously limit the chances of you
catching anything.
Also the thing to remember is that your mum may not have had a bad bug,
she may have eaten something which disagreed with her, or any number of
things that could of upset her stomach.
Keep us posted of how you are and how you feel, there is usually
someone on these boards day and night around the world. We will
NEVER say you are being silly, we will ALWAYS be supportive of your
panic attacks and try all that we can to see you through them.
TOGETHER WE WILL GET THROUGH THIS.
OK ?
