I don't understand how you could possible compare racism to vomit! They aren't even in the same category- things like racism DO diserve more attention and consideration when it comes to displaying it in the media than a normal biological function- which vomitting is. The fact that you are even comparing the two is disturbing to me.
I think that showing vomitting on TV may be in bad taste- but I don't think it warrants a major complaint. It all goes down to potty humour- stuff like this, fart jokes, smelly bathroom gags and public urination seem to be popular as of late. If it didnt sell and people didnt find it funny, movies like American Pie wouldn't make so much at the box office. The only way I think this trend will stop is if people stop watching.
As for reality tv- well, dehydration, excessive physical activity, eating disgusting food and drinking too much DO cause vomitting- I don't think you can get any more real than that. Isn't that the point of reality tv?
On all the listing of phobias that I have seen, arachnophobia always ranks higher than emetophobia- and people can fear spiders to the same extent that we fear vomit- to the point that they become agoraphobic for fear of seeing a spider outside- or can't sleep because they are convinced there is a spider in the house. Should the media not show any spiders? Should tv shows that may portray a warning is aspider is to be shown? What about lesser known fears, such as fear of cotton balls, chalk, and clowns-if everything everyone feared wasbanned from the media, we would be watching a blank screen 24-7.
