I'm Kat, 21 years old.
I live with my husband on Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland, though we JUST moved from Honolulu a couple months ago. Still trying to adjust to the weather!

We have an African Grey parrot named Stewie, and a pug puppy named General Tso, Tso-Tso for short.

I can trace my emet back to about 1993, though it may have been there longer-that's just the earliest I remember.

My husband is a senior NCO photographer in the Air Force. I'm not currently working, but my degree is in forensic psych. I LOVE reading about and studying serial killers, collecting movies, true crime books, and spending time with my husband. He's 12 years older than me, though we're a perfect match.

It's great to be here with you guys!

I'm Jay Rough. I'm 17, emet, I have mild Aspbergers. I live in Orange, NSW, Australia. It's a small hick town. I have a good friend with emet from school.

Amy (who will be registering soon when she gets the internet) is a 16 year old, she is EXTREMELY emet, which is the result of a brain problem (apart from emet and claustrophobia, she says is completely normal.)

I discovered this site on the 6th of March and registered, wishing to share my knowledge and story amoung the many others who are emetophobiac.

My parents, although sometimes fair, are unsupportive. They believe emetophobia is nothing more than a "stupid obsession".

Take a look at this chatlog, I won't state who it is for their own privacy.

[09:13:13 PM] CENSORED: but obsessing about weird medical
disorders isn't going to get you anywhere
[09:13:20 PM] Jay Rough: I'm not obsessing, I'm studying. It's a phobia I have myself! And families offer no support, yet this site does! It's done more for it than anyone else. I got free exposure therapy which has worked miracles.

So people, there are weird snobs who need to shove it where the sun doesn't shine. I don't care if others think I'm weird, I'm helping people (hopefully) and that's what makes me happy.Edited by: jay_rough

hi everyone!

My name is Jacque (pronounced Jackie, thank my mom for the wierd spelling) I'm 22 and live in Syracuse, NY. I'm a single mom tomy 1 year old daughter, Charla. I cannot even put into words how relieved i was to find this site. I, along with my whole family and all my friends, just thought i was crazy, it is so nice to know that there are other people who deal with this controlling fear. I've had this fear for as long as i can remember and it's nice to finally have a name for it. My family is so much more supportive to me now that they know it's a real thing and i'm not just nuts!

Anywho, I'm a bartender and a little local bar (i LOVE my job). I love music, shopping and spending time with my daughter. My guilty pleasures are Wal-mart andreality tv, it's sad, i know . It's really great to meet all of you!

Hi! My name is Amy Renett. I'm 15, I live in Orange, and have emetophobia like the others on the site.

I always got told I was being stupid, sayingI had a fear of vomiting, then got a shock when I found out this site.

Im addicted to chocolate, Jay (my bf), tv, funny tv shows and sonic. I got really sick a while ago and realised how scary it was for me to be sick. I felt so wussy when I saw someone else vomit so casually and not care. I was like "why do I cry and sob and shake when I vomit?".

Hi! I'm Mandi! I'm 22 from Alabama. I am a Communications Specialist for a power company.....I just got married 3 weeks ago (so I'm still in the honeymoon stage of life, haha). Anyway, I have been an emet (and just didn't know what it was called) since I was 9. That's a long time.......I just hope my wonderful husband doesn't get sick and tired of hearing me worry all the time!

My name is Pam. I'm 20 years old. I love to sing and I love to act on stage. I play acoustic guitar (my guitar's name is Kintar Duncan) and the flute. I can read music and bang out the melody on a piano. I love Diet coke. I live in Massachusetts, close to Boston. I can't dance, but I do anyway. I love my life. I have the greatest family ever. My parents are split up and I don't get along with my father, but my mother re-married and my stepdad, Joe, is the best guy on the face of the planet.

I'm a sophmore at Framingham State College where I'm majoring in Journalism. I want to be a writer for a newspaper or magazine. I live on campus with my roommate, Joanna. We have a lot in common, but enough differences to keep things interesting.

I have a dog, Rosie. She's my favorite living thing on the planet and I love her to death. When I come home from school for a weekend, she gets exciting and she cries at me and gives me love bites and slobbers all over my arm. She always seems to know when something is bothering me, because she'll rest her head on my knee and let out a deep sigh. She's almost like a sister.

I have an older brother, an older sister, and a younger brother. I'm very close with my sister and younger brother. We're such good friends and we talk about everything with each other.

If I could live without ever putting on a pair of shoes, I'd be the happiest person in the world.

I'm a Christian. I love the Lord, but I don't push my faith on other people. I don't make people feel uncomfortable about my faith. At least I try not to. I believe what I believe because.. I just believe it. That's as simply as I can put it.

A huge part of who I am has to do with the fact that I've been through a ton of hard things so far in life. Everyone has, I'm sure. Its good to know that I could get through those things, because now I feel like I can face almost anything.

Haha, what a great idea.

My name is Danielle, I am 14, and I live in Nebraska. I do bowling and Track as my sports right now, and I love to hang out with my friends. I also love to shop, travel, and go to movies with my boyfriend, Alex.

I would love to be an Architect for my future career, I love designing buildings, and other structures that will be a help to society. Uh...I don't know what else to tell you. I guess that besides my phobia, I am a really cool person to hang out with.

Hi Everyone. I'm kind of new here, it's my first time posting. My name is Kristi. I'm 18 and a college student. I have a loving boyfriend, Matthew.

I have emet, although I am less fearful of myself becoming ill than seeing someone else.

I would love to have contact with someone here, or multiple people here who experience the same fears as me. And I would love to help and support others here as well.

It's nice to meet all of you and hopefully I can be accepted into this seemingly friendly comunity.

Hi all,

I'm 26 and live in TX with my boyfriend, who is 9 years older than me andisprettysupportive about my emet -the best he can be, even though he doesn't understand it! We've been together for 6 1/2 years and everyone asks when we'll get married, but we're happythe way we are. We have two wonderful and awesome kitties who complete our family (and their pictures complete our walls). I'm in graduate school, just about tofinish the coursework for my PhD in Humanities/Literature. I teach part time at a community college and want to do that forever- I'm trying to get a full-time position soon! Teaching is a scary thing for emets, but I think it's a lot better teaching college students. They are more in control of their faculties (no pun intended) and they don't need much prompting to miss class, so if they feel bad they're usually at home.

I've been an emet as long as I can remember- beginning around age 2 or 3. I'm not sure how it got started, but I've had it my whole life and have been seeing a doc for a few years to work on it & other things. It's helping quite a bit. I recognize myself in the voices of so many others here. It's great to know I'm not crazy for having this phobia; it seems like no one else I know outside of this board understands it. Maybe we're all so secretive about it that there are more of us out there than we know... Thanks all for reading this and for being here.

Hi, I'm Tim. I just registered today.

I'm 26, live in NYC and work in the music industry. I'm engaged to a wonderful gal named Marie and have a cute little pug as a pet.

I never knew there were so many people with this fear that it's very comforting to know. I've been having a lot of stomach issues since December and my new health insurance plan doesn't kick in until the end of May, so there's nothing I can really do yet but try and find out what's making me feel nauseous so much and so often.

Hey - I realized I've never responded on here. I'm 47 years old, married for 25 years to a great guy who's 50. He's a law partner in a litigation firm. I'm a Minister in the United Church of Canada. I have a B.A. in English/Dance, all of my MBA except 2 stats courses, a Masters of Divinity, a Ph.D. in Jungian psychology, of which I never finished the dissertation cuz I got breast cancer. Now I have a 3-year diploma in Marriage and Family Therapy, and I'm a clinical intern in psychotherapy.

We have 3 kids: our son is 31 and he's partnered up and he works in the medical insurance field. Our oldest daughter is 24 and she's a professional ballerina. Our youngest daughter is 21 and she's finishing a BA in English literature. Then she's going into the ministry as well -she'll need to do an M.Div. (4 more years). She's hooked up with the greatest guy on earth (next to my husband -lol). He's 21 and doing a B.Sc. - wants to be a science teacher. They're both gorgeous and talented and they love the church.

None of my kids got emet, or any other anxiety disorder, which is cool. Our whole family is really close.

My husband and I are having our 25th anniversary in August, and we're going to get married again and have the wedding we never had. Well, we had a wedding, but we had nomoney so I had a homemade dress and our reception was in our back yard with jellied salads and cold ham.The flowers were just from our garden and the cake was nasty. So I'm going to have a princess dress...and we'll have baron of beef and a dj and a dance and the cake I want. Only about 50 people - nothing extravagent really. But I will splurge totally on the dress!

What else...I'm writing a book that's just getting edited this year. It's about leadership. I also travel and guest speak on this topic all over the place - teaching workshops and consulting and such. I spent over a year researching a book on emetophobia/my story...but I don't have time to get it written (with my previous therapist) until the other one is published. I will!

My name is Julie and I am 34 years old. I live in Northeast Ohio with the
greatest man for my husband of 10 years (although we started dating
when we were 15!) We have 2 very special kids, a son who is almost 8
and a daughter who is 5. I am a second grade teacher and I am a HUGE
advocate for the Love and Logic strategies of parenting and teaching. I
love the ocean and anything having to do with water. I take ballet once a
week and love to read.

I have been battling with emet. for as long as I can remember. It has
gotten worse with teaching, having a son with a VERY sensitive gag reflex
and a daughter with severe food allergies.

I am so thankful to have found a place where I can talk to people who are
a lot like me in their thinking.

Hi,

I briefly introduced myself in another section of the forum, but for those who missed it...

My name is Chris and I am 22 years young and at the moment I am neither
single or in a relationship, which is quite a strange way to be. I
think that I'll save everybody the details on that though!!! I am a
third year history and politics student at the University of Leicester
in the wonderful UK, and will be graduating in just over 2 months from
now, when I will be catapulted into the real world. However, in August,
I will be chasing after my dream and going into full time commercial
flying training, and hopefully ended up in an airline as a first
officer in just over 2 years time.

My main interests are SCUBA diving, skiing, music, guitars, football,
flying/aviation and computers, and I like to keep myself exceptionally
active at all times!! I love playing guitar and have done so for about
the last 7 years of my life, and will often be seen looking at live
music (blues, all forms of rock, metal and jazz) around the live music
venues of Leicester.

Although, when I am not at uni, I live peacefully in the English
countryside with my exceptionally loving Mum, Dad and sister. Quite
strange to think that I'll be moving to Oxford though in August...

Hello.

My name is Anthony and i have been a sufferer for 6 years. I am 18 years old and i am currently studying in college. I hope to go to Exeter University to study Accounting & Finance this September.

The past 6 years have been hell. I suffer from panic attacks and nausea daily. However, in the past few months i have taken some large steps to curing this problem. I am about to have my first counselling session next week. I am looking forward to it as there is a lot i want to say about my problem which my parents would never understand.

If anyone wants to chat to me, just add to your msn friends list.

I'm 24 years old, will be 25 on June 9th. I live in Harrisburg, P.A. I have a 3 year old son (May 2) and I' m currently a full-time nursing student and I work part-time at a fire department. I have an identical twin sister(whom, I might add, is an emet too) I have been with my son's father for 6 years now. He recently moved to Harrisburg from Philadelphia. He is a federal probation/parole officer. He also teaches at a local college and is a social worker. I enjoy shopping, reading, listening to relaxing music, hitting the gym and studying nursing. I would have went to medical school but that seemed almost impossible running the schedule I run now. I plan to get my Master's degree (hopefully at the Uniiversity of Pennsylvania) and become a certified-nurse midwife. Close enough to a doctor for me:O)

Hello everyone, my name is Josh and I'm from Winnipeg, Manitoba. I'm 24
and live downtown where the action is most of the time. I have a
roommate and two cats named Fuel Montague and Gryffin Copperpot. I
spend most of my spare time watching Star Trek: Enterprise and Star
Trek: TNG but I also love American Idol and plenty of home decorating
shows. I'm about to celebrate my one year anniversary with my boyfriend
Jamey who is 22 but turning 23 on June 6th. Hes currently in the
washroom after having too much to drink, which is a first for me to
deal with. I'm a Photo Imaging Specialist with London Drugs and thusly
spend a lot of time learning about digital cameras and photofinishing.
I'm really happy to have found this site and hope to get to know
everyone here! Glad to see so many people from abroad, though I have
trouble understanding some of the terms the Brits are using. Whats
mashed swede?

My name is Lindsay, I'm 23 years old and I live inCambridge, Ontario. I have a boyfriend of 5 years, a 6 year-old boy and a 2 and a half year old girl. My biggest aspiration right now is to buy a house - it's very hard to save up when you're already paying well over $1000 dollars a month in rent and utilities! I enjoy reading, collecting antique books, going for walks at night, driving in the country, listening to music, and looking through old cemeteries. I'm a professional housekeeper with a well-known cleaning company - there are things about it I like, namely the cleaning, and things I don't like, like the fact that we get treated like crap from everyone we come into contact with, even the general public, on an everyday basis. I think that's all I have to say about myself!
