Hey guys - I have a bad cold and one of those tickley throats. Do you guys have any suggestions on how to get rid of that? I hate it. I can't even lay down to get some sleep b/c it keeps draining down my throat.

Taking a decongestant will help with the draining some. Drink tea with honey in it to help soothe the tickles or scratchiness. I just went through this last week, so I know how you're feeling!

What about the stuff that gets rid of post nasal drip? Is it mucinex?

How long did it last with you?? Gosh. I haven't been sick (even with a cold) in ages. I don't even remember the last time. I'm like freaking out over here and it's just a cold. Do you think Dayquil would work? Man, I'm being such a baby.lol I just want to feel better all ready. It all started last Thursday. You know how you feel all achy and what not and you are not sure whether it's going to be a cold or the flu? That's how I felt until Saturday. Then the cold came. This sucks. Yuck...

Taking dayquil and nightquil are wonderful at alleviating symptoms of your cold!

mucinex works wonders...anything with an antihistamine is good too, not
so great for your voice, but neither is post nasal drip....well
yeah. most people don't have to worry about their voices though,
I forget that sometimes! I hope you feel better soon!

I'm doing ok right now as far as the throat thing goes. **knock on wood* I can't take antihistimines though. They make my anxiety shoot through the roof and I have to take a Xanax to counteract the feeling. My heart races so bad on the stuff. I hate it. I never tried Mucinex though. Is it an antihistimine?

no it just thins your mucus, it won't really help post nasal drip it
might even make it worse...but it will help you get rid of it more
    quickly....I wouldn't suggest it and a decongestant though...I duno
they may do well together. Nyquil and Dayquil both have
    antihistamines

I never had a problem with Dayquil. I think it was Sudafed. That really got me. I think each one is different.

Hot liquids like tea will help loosen stuff that's running down your throat, so will orange juice. If you cough (this might sound gross, but it works), make sure you get as much of that flemmy stuff you can out. Decongestiants (sp?) also help out a lot. Also, cough drops can help a lot too (if you don't like the taste of halls for example, I take those vitimin c suppliments instead. You suck on them the same as cough drops, they work the same way to help soothe your throat and you get all your vitimin c for the day which boosts your imune system especially if you're sick).

Hope you feel better! Colds are no fun!

sounds good, yeah I think they changed to formula of dayquil recently now that I think about it, they've been having to take most antihistamines off the market because of the whole sudafed scandal with people buying them and making drugs!!!!! Yay for meth labs right?

I hate Sudafed. It works, but makes me feel so weird. Sometimes even worse.

Afew drops of eucalyptus essential oil on a hankerchief helps. Honey and lemon juice mixed with hot water is also good. And don't overdo dairy products as they can make muccus worse. Get plenty of rest, vitamin c and fluids and you should be back to full health before you know it!

Yeah--hot beverages make my throat feel better when I'm like that.. They ssothe the throat and help the drainage. Hot tea is good. Sudafed gives me medicine head and makes me feel jittery. I've taken some kind of Robitussin and it helped. I think it was the expectorant which is supposed to help you cough stuff up, but it thins the mucous and makes it easier on your throat.

I took dayquil this morning and it seems to be working, my doctor
tested me for allergies and none of the tests came back positive but
the fact that everything here is starting to bloom and I'm starting to
feel like crap makes me not believe him.

Thanks guys for your replies. The tickley throat seems to be gone, thank goodness. I thought it was going to get bad, but it didn't. **knock on wood** I have a horrible gag reflex. That's why I don't like those tickley throats.lol

I hate the tickley throat!!! I always keep popping cough drops to make it not tickle, but of course you can't do that while sleeping, lol...what about that numbing spray, chloraseptic? Do they still make that?

I don't have it anymore. It seems my cold turned into a sinus infection. Yuck. Not fun.
